A partnership between Joe Root and captain Eoin Morgan helped England reach the 257-run target to win the third and final One-Day-International match by 8 wickets against India. The victory sealed a 2-1series win.

England batsmen Morgan and Root made light work of the run chase on a wicket that was assisting the spinners, with Kuldeep Yadav, the chief wicket-taker for the visitors in the first game, unable to bag a single scalp.

Star batsman Joe Root yet again scored a century and becamethe top run scorer in the series. For his brilliant performance, he was awarded the Player of the Series.

He found a determined ally in skipper Morgan who struck an unbeaten 88 off 108 balls, that included nine fours and a six.

Root finished on 100 not out as the hosts reached the victory target with more than five overs to spare having lost both their openers by the 10th over.

Earlier, England had won the toss and opted to bowl against India in the decider match at Headingley, Leeds.

For England, leg-spinner Adil Rashid took three important wickets. He outbowled Suresh Raina, skipper Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik.

For his outstanding bowling, he received Player of the Match award.

Suresh Raina scored just one run, however, Virat and Karthik were building a crucial partnership but lost their wicket after scoring 71 and 21 runs.

Another bowler, David Willey too took three wickets. Opener Rohit Sharma went back to pavilion after scoring just 2 runs.

Willey got another breakthrough for England when he took MS Dhoni's wicket in the death overs.

It was expected that Hardik Pandya would salvage the innings but after scoring 21 runs he edged the ball into the safe hands of Jos Buttler on a beautiful delivery of Mark Wood.

England have won their last five games at Leeds. The series had been poised on a knife-edge after England won the second game by 86 runs at Lord's on Saturday and India won the first game by eight wickets.

The teams start a five-test series on August 1 in Birmingham.
