IPL 2024: Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis fined for Code of Conduct breaches
Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru captains Sam Curran and Faf du Plessis, respectively, have been fined for breaching IPL’s code of conduct. While Sam is fined 50 per cent of his match fees for ‘showing dissent at an umpire’s decision’ against GT on Sunday, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis is penalised INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side’s game against KKR at the Eden Gardens the other night.
Punjab’s stand-in captain, Curran, committed a Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction from the match referee.
“Curran committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” an IPL media release stated on Monday (April 22).
As per the rule book, for level 1 breaches of IPL’s Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is ‘final and binding’.
RCB and PBKS continue to struggle
Two teams to never win an IPL title in 16 editions – Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are struggling in the 17th edition of the IPL. While Punjab sits in the ninth position with two wins from eight contested matches, RCB is reeling at the bottom at the tenth position, with just one win this season.

RCB travelled to the Eden Gardens for their away clash against KKR on Sunday. After leaking 222 runs, the touring side came agonizingly close but failed to cross the winning line – losing the tight game by just one run. Although Faf raised concerns over Virat Kohli’s controversial caught & bowled dismissal that made headlines, he praised his team for showing courage and character against their old foes.

On the other hand, Punjab lost their fifth home game this season, going down to Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur by three wickets. The hosts began stunningly, with Curran and Prabhsimran Singh smoking fours at will but Punjab lost the momentum during the middle overs, with wickets falling like a pack of cards.
They scored 142 and made a game out of it with regular wickets in the second innings but eventually fell behind in defending the below-par total, as GT won the match by three wickets.
