Chennai Super Kings (CSK)registered their third win of theIndian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Monday (April 8). After the latest win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opened up on his stint and stated he is enjoying the new role. Gaikwad, who was handed the captaincy on the eve of the opening of the IPL 2024 season, has so far helped CSKwin against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and on Monday against KKR.
"I don't want to be a specific kind of character," Gaikwad said. "Just like to flow things as they're flowing. Keep the culture of the CSK basically going. That's what I feel. The success we've had, the things we have been doing, I don't want to change a single bit of it. I just want to come there, take my own decisions and just give as much freedom as possible because that's what has been happening since when I joined CSK. Nothing really changes and I'm enjoying myself."
While MS Dhoni is still the undesignated leader of the side, Gaikwad unlike Ravindra Jadeja in 2022 has got off to a good start. He has been brilliant with his captaincy while changing the bowlers and field placements and also using the impact sub during a crucial period.
Ruturaj and Co will next take the field on Sunday (April 14) when they face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the IPL clasico. The two teams are the most successful in the history of the competition with five titles each to their names. The two have also played in the IPL final on multiple occasions and the match promises to be a tempting affair at the Wankhede Stadium.
In 36 meetings between the sides, MI lead the head-to-head 20-16 and will look to extend that run on Sunday.
