England and Yorkshire batter Harry Brook has dedicated his County Championship runs to his late grandmother, Pauline, who passed away in March this year. Brook, who returned to competitive cricket for the first time since December 2023, scored two hundreds against Leicestershire and Derbyshire, respectively, further sharing his thoughts on an England return for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA.
Brook was very close to his grandmother; he always admired her, as she stood by him and helped him become the player he is today.
In January this year, while Brook was training with the England Team in Abu Dhabi for the India tour, he received news of Pauline feeling sick. He rushed home straightaway. Brook missed the India series, and after his grandmother passed away a couple of months later, he decided against playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
However, he returned to the cricket field for Yorkshire in the County Championship in April, scoring runs at will, including hitting a 69-ball hundred against Leicestershire.
Sensational.

He looked up at the sky as he celebrated his comeback ton, and upon speaking with the media for the first time since hisgrandmother’sdeath, Brook said, "Both of those hundreds [for Yorkshire this season] and all of the runsI'vescored so far this year are all dedicated to her."
"When I came home from Abu Dhabi, it wasa very toughtime, andI'mglad I did come home. Obviously, it was a big decision to make.Ihadn'tplayed hundreds of games for England, sotojustturndowna bigTest tour like that [India] was a big decisionto make.
"But she comes before all of that. She would have come out there a couple of years ago, so I had to come back and support her as much as I could. I managed to take her out for a coffee and whatnot in that first week I was back,”headded.
Brook won the T20 World Cup in Australia two years ago and says he is as excited for the title defence as anyone in the team. England’swhite-ball Captain, Jos Buttler and head coach Matthew Mott will name the provisional 15-man squad for the marquee event on April 30 (Tuesday), with Brook likely to be part of it.
"I'mlooking forward to it if selected,"Brook said of the T20 World Cup.
"We join up at the end of next month.I'mlooking forward tobeing backwith the lads and hopefully producing the goods for England again,”he concluded.
