The Indian men’s hockey team on Friday were convincingly beaten by New Zealand in the semi-final at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

India went down 3-2 in the semifinal clash against the Kiwis, who had a powerful defence to block every attack by the men in blue. 

However, it is not all over for India as they will get to fight for the bronze medal on Saturday.

The Kiwis scored two goals in the first quarter and added one in the third. India, scored one goal each in the second and the fourth quarter.

India missed key chances in the second half of the game.

India will now play the losers of the second semi-final between Australia and England in the Bronze medal match on Saturday.

Earlier, the Manpreet Singh-led side was held for a draw by arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening Pool B match last week, while they notched up 4-3 win over Wales and a 2-1 victory against Malaysia in the following matches, before outwitting England 4-3 yesterday.
