
Indian women’s hockey team defeated South Africa 1-0 to enter the semi-final of 2018 Commonwealth Games, on Tuesday.
India took down South Africa’s challenge in their fourth encounter in Women’s Pool A match.
The Indian team produced a fourth-quarter goal in a tense match through captain Rani Rampal that ensured her side a berth in the semifinals.
India returned to winning ways after their initial 2-3 defeat against Wales as they embarrassed Malaysia 4-1 in their next match.
They then went on to defeat Olympic champions England 2-1 to keep their semi-final hope alive.
India have so far won 21 medals, including 11 gold, four silver and six bronze.
The Indian men’s hockey team also progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Malaysia while boxers Manoj Kumar, Mohammed Hussanmuddin, Amit Phangal and Naman Tanwar also assured themselves of a bronze at least by entering the last four stage.
