A major TV station in the Maldives today suspended operation as the 15-day emergency imposed by President Abdulla Yameen-led government continued to throw the nation in crisis.
RaajjeTV in a tweet said it had suspended broadcast due to "attacks on free and independent media."
"Raajje TV informs our viewers that we have suspended regular broadcast due to attacks on free and independent media continued threats to Raajje TV and its staff, following the police's decision to slash security to the station and the warning issued to MNDF to media sources over closure of any media stations without warning," the TV station said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, former president of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed who is in exile said Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed was being "mistreated" by authorities in prison.
The Chief Justice of Maldives Abdulla Saeed including judge Ali Hameed were arrested by police after the riot police entered the nation's Supreme Court where top judges had taken refuge.
