Coronavirus cases rise to over 58,000 in Pakistan; over 1,200 dead

Pakistan's Punjab province reported 577 new COVID-19 cases with 15 people succumbing to the virus

The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan rose to over 58,000 on Tuesday with Sindh and Punjab accounting for over 44,000 infections as the death toll climbed to 1,202 in the country.

Pakistan's Punjab province reported 577 new COVID-19 cases with 15 people succumbing to the virus, health authorities said. The province now has over 20,000 cases of the virus,

In Sindh which is also one of the worst affected regions in Pakistan reported 573 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours even as the number of cases rose to over 23,000.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government requested people to continue social distancing during Eid as the province recorded 175 COVID-19 cases. 408 people have died due to the virus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.    

There were cases reported in other parts of the country as well including capital city of Islamabad which reported 87 cases taking the number of cases over 1,700 and Gilgit Baltistan which reported eleven new COVID-19 cases.

Amid the rapid spread of the virus, Pakistan authorities said that over 18,000 people had recovered from the virus. 

Balochistan also reported new cases with 61 infected cases being recored with the total death toll climbing to 41 in the province with over 3,400 reported cases.
