Bangladesh recalls seven envoys appointed by previous Sheikh Hasina govt

Bangladesh recalls seven envoys appointed by previous Sheikh Hasina govt

Bangladesh on Thursday (Aug 15)instructed seven envoys appointed on a contractual basis by the previous Sheikh Hasina government to return to the country immediately, local media report.

Bangladesh's foreign ministry asked these envoys torelinquish their current responsibilities and return to the headquarters in Dhaka immediately, a report by the Dhaka Tribute said on Friday.

A look at the envoys that have been recalled

The report said that the envoys include-Ambassador Mohammad Imran in Washington, Ambassador Kamrul Hasan in Russia, Ambassador Javed Patwary in Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Shahabuddin Ahmed in Japan, Ambassador Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan in Germany, Ambassador Abu Zafar in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), and High Commissioner Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad in the Maldives.

Apart from the envoys,First Secretary Wahiduzzaman Noor and Counselor Arifa Rahman Ruma in Washington, Counselor Aparna Rani Pal and Counselor Mobashwira Farzana Mithila in Ottawa, Canada, and Third Secretary Asib Uddin Ahmed in New York were also being recalled by Dhaka.

The above developments are part of major administrative reshuffles happening in Bangladesh days after the formation of the interim government following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina as PM.

Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the head of the interim government last week, days after Hasina was forced to quit and flee the country following violent protests.

Yusuf meets kin of missing people

On Tuesday, Yusuf met the families ofthe victims of enforced disappearancewho have been seeking justice. Yunus promised the families to take action to find out what had happened to the disappeared people, mostly Hasina's opponents, and provide justice, the news agency Reuters reported.

Earlier in the day, the families joined protests in Dhaka, carryingphotos of the missing members and demanding justice from Yunus.
