Once a silent partner of Pakistan The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal chief Maulana Fazl ur Rahman turned a sharp critic of the military establishment in Islamabad over the failed economic policies and the lack of coherence between the military and civic bodies which has led to consistent isolation of Pakistan economically and diplomatically in the region.
He accused the Pakistani military establishment of alienating the pro-Pakistani establishment at Kabul.
Speaking to a crowd in Islamabad, Fazl ur Rahman called it &ldquo;a historic missed opportunity&rdquo; to improve ties with Afghanistan under the Taliban led Islamic Emirate.&nbsp;

Fazl ur Rahman criticised the ongoing standoff on the Afghanistan border as waste of resources. He specifically mentioned that the long line of freight vehicles stuck at the checkpoint is an utter waste of public money.
While speaking about the ongoing diplomatic and military crisis with India, he pointed out that the whole nation is together in the matter of India and ready to fight to end, but not in the case of Afghanistan.
He scurrilously attacked the Pakistani Military establishment for exclusivity and lack of conformity in engaging with all political stakeholders, economic planners and civil society to address the country's crisis.

In yet another admission of harbouring terror, Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that it is an open secret that Pakistan has a past as far as extremist groups are concerned. Pakistan also shielded The Resistance Force (TRF) - the terror group which first claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack and then retracted - at the United Nations (UN) by getting its name removed from the statement on the Pahalgam attack.&nbsp;

<h2>Pahalgam terror attack</h2>
A terror attack on April 22 in Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam district killed 26 tourists. An offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - The Resistance Front (TRF) - claimed responsibility for the attack. However, they retracted their statement on April 26, claiming that its social media was compromised. The Indian government launched a massive crackdown against the terrorists and released sketches of three terrorists who were responsible for the attack. As per J&amp;K Police, two terrorists involved in the attack were Pakistani nationals and the third, was a resident of Anantnag in Kashmir. His home along with the homes of several other terrorists, have been demolished.
On the diplomatic front, the Indian government halted the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled its diplomats, called back Indian officials from Islamabad, closed the Attari border and its airspace for Pakistani flights. India is also planning to block postal services and Pakistani IP (websites). Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I say to the whole world. India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth."&nbsp;

Bilawal Bhutto says 'Pakistan has a past' in big admission of supporting terrorists, days after backing Pahalgam attackers

Amid India's stern action on Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, Pakistan is in panic mode with its top leaders huddling regularly. On Thursday (May 1) Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari and discussed the current security situation, and said that they are standing with their armed forces. Pakistan's Deputy PM Dar, and Minister for Law and Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, were also present during the meeting.
This comes after Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar's big admission on his country's support to The Resistance Force (TRF) - an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack. Several Pakistani leaders issued a "war threat" to India after India halted the Indus Waters Treaty. Earlier, the Pakistani PM had not condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir but had demanded a "credible" probe into the matter.

<h2>Pahalgam terror attack and fallout of India-Pakistan ties</h2>
A terror attack on April 22 in Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam district killed 26 tourists. An offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - The Resistance Front (TRF) - claimed responsibility for the attack. However, they retracted their statement on April 26, claiming that its social media was compromised. However, the Indian government launched a massive crackdown against the terrorists and released sketches of three terrorists who were responsible for the attack. As per J&amp;K Police,&nbsp;two terrorists involved in the attack were Pakistani nationals and the third, was a resident of Anantnag in Kashmir. His home along with the homes of several other terrorists, have been demolished.

Pakistan in panic mode: PM Shehbaz Sharif meets President Zardari amid India's stern action post-Pahalgam terror attack

Pakistan's media is in the grip of an "existential threat," amid a growing restrictive environment, legal overreach, and declining safety for journalists, according to a new report by media watchdog Freedom Network.
The Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom Report 2025, titled "Free Speech and Public Interest Journalism Under Siege," warns that media in Pakistan is at a critical crossroad, facing one of the most perilous periods in its history.
<h2>What is the reason for deteriorating press freedom in Pakistan?</h2>
The report, launched ahead of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, points at the controversial amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) in January 2025 as the primary trigger for the current crisis. It, as per the report, "made it easier" for authorities to arrest, detain and fine journalists and dissidents &mdash; both online and offline.

"The existential threat is serious as such a situation is seen rare in Pakistani media history. This situation is threatening the very foundation of democracy and the state is more brutal now than it was before to tolerate hard questions," said Freedom Network Executive Director Iqbal Khattak, the co-author.
<h2>A dangerous time for journalists</h2>
Between May 2024 and April 2025, the time period covered by the report, five journalists were killed &mdash; three in Sindh and two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Meanwhile, at least 82 journalists and other media professionals faced various forms of threats during the same period.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of cases involving threats or violence against journalists (22), followed by Islamabad (20), Punjab (18), Balochistan (4), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (1).

At least 14 journalists faced legal cases, most under Peca, and eight were arrested or detained.
"These challenges reflect the broader shrinking space for media freedoms in the country. Such a declining media space means citizens will have little access to information they need to know," Khattak said.
The report also flagged increasing challenges for women journalists, noting some improvement in representation, but persistent disparities in opportunities, safety, and recognition.
"Even though inadequately represented in media in quantitative terms, women are active in various forms of media, including print, television, radio and digital platforms."

Indo-Pak war fears after Pahalgam terror attack - Pakistan's nuclear weapons loose talk vs India's responsible doctrine: In my native language, there is a saying: Don't give the jasmine flower to a monkey. The monkey's first instinct will be to pick it apart. It essentially means, something that has to be handled carefully should not be given to someone irresponsible. In the last few days, the rhetoric coming from Pakistan on how its nuclear weapons are not for display, hinting that they will be used against India in case of a war in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, reminded me of how important that old saying I heard a lot during childhood is.

<h2>Nuclear weapons are for deterrence </h2>
Let me take another analogy from the wildlife. Nobody, except the trained and the insane, messes with snakes. We are taught early on that snakes have poison in their fangs, so we keep a safe distance. Nuclear weapons have a purpose, and that is not for use at the first sign of war. It is the poison that makes the enemy think twice before a direct attack. In strategic terms, it is called a deterrent. But Pakistan's approach to nuclear weapons is different. It is based on hyperbole because there's no clarity on its nuclear doctrine. India, on the other hand, has been a responsible user of its nuclear weapons state staus. Here is a comparison of India's nuclear doctrine and Pakistan's approach to nuclear weapons.
<a href="https://www.wionews.com/pakistan/pahalgam-terror-attack-nostradamus-study-predicted-indo-pak-war-in-2025-nuclear-war-devastation-india-pakistan-nuke-numbers-9017754">This 'Nostradamus' study predicted Indo-Pak war in 2025. It most likely got the year right, but what did it say on 'nuclear war'?</a>
<h2>India&rsquo;s nuclear doctrine</h2>
India had formulated its nuclear doctrine as early as 2003.&nbsp;
Its core principles are: No first Use (NFU) policy, credible minimum deterrence, and Cold Start doctrine.
<h2>No First Use (NFU) policy of India's nuclear doctrine&nbsp;</h2>
Simply put, it is a promise not to start a nuclear war by not being the first country to use atomic weapons. India would only use nuclear weapons in response to a nuclear attack on its territory or armed forces.
It also pledged not to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapons states.
However, India can use nuclear weapons in response to biological or chemical weapons attacks.
<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/kim-watches-first-test-firing-of-new-warship-weapons-system-orders-speedily-nuclear-armament-for-navy-9017182">Kim watches first test-firing of new warship weapons system, orders speedily nuclear armament for North Korean navy</a>
But don't take NFU for weakness.
Once India retaliates to a first strike with nuclear weapons, it would be massive. It will inflict unacceptable damage. In other words, India's second strike capability, in the extreme level of use, could wipe out the enemy nation from the map.
&nbsp;
<h2>India's Credible Minimum Deterrence</h2>
India's nuclear weapons programme came in spite of continuous pressure from major powers.
This led India to reach a level of sufficiency in nuclear weapons, and then stop.
Credible Minimum Deterrence means India would not go for unnecessary stockpiling of nuclear weapons, instead preferring an arsenal that's sufficient to deter adversaries.&nbsp;
<h2>India's Nuclear Triad, Command and Control</h2>
India's nuclear weapons are under a very clear command and control system.
It has a nuclear triad, which involves land-based missiles, aircraft, and sea-based assets.
The idea is to ensure that India retains a second-strike capability, as it is opposed to first use.
<a href="https://www.wionews.com/web-stories/world/shaadi-tak-jang-rok-do-pakistani-netizens-troll-themselves-amid-indo-pak-war-tensions-9006978">'Shaadi tak jang rok do': Pakistani netizens troll themselves amid Indo-Pak war tensions</a>
The command and control structure is led completely by India's civilian political leadership.
On top of it is the Nuclear Command Authority. The NCA is chaired by the Indian prime minister.
The operational control of India's nuclear assets is with the Strategic Nuclear Command,&nbsp; set up in 2003.
<h2>Cold Start Doctrine: A key aspect of India's nuclear weapons policy</h2>
While Cold Start is not exclusively applicable to nuclear weapons, it has implications for India's nuclear policy also.
Cold start was developed after 2001, and is part of India's conventional military strategy.
It refers to rapid, limited offensives into Pakistan in response to acts by the enemy state, without going into an all-out war.
India's surgical strikes in response to Pakistan-backed terror attacks fall within this category.
The key aspects of a cold start are quick mobilisation of forces aimed at seizing territory before escalating into a nuclear war, and achieving goals before international interventions.
<h2>India's stance on global disarmament: A responsible nuclear power opposed to discrimination&nbsp;</h2>
In the international fora, India has made its stance clear on nuclear weapons by advocating a global, non-discriminatory and verifiable disarmament.
It stands for controlling nuclear weapons and a globally agreed moratorium on nuclear weapons tests.
This is reflected in India not joining the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which it finds discriminatory.
<h2>India, in summary, is a responsible nuclear power</h2>
India has used its weapons for deterrence while being committed to restraint.
The Cold Start doctrine ensures that a conventional war does not escalate into a nuclear conflict. The case of Pakistan is totally different when it comes to nuclear doctrine.
Remember I told you about the monkey and the jasmine flower? Let me now attempt to figure out what Pakistan's nuclear doctrine is.
<h2>Pakistan's nuclear doctrine is not codified</h2>
The first thing you should note is that there is no formal, single public document that codifies Pakistan&rsquo;s nuclear doctrine.
The second thing you should note is that Pakistan is not committed to, in fact explicitly opposes, no-first-use policy on nuclear weapons. This is what gives politicians the freedom to talk loose: one minister recently said Pakistan's nuclear weapons are not for decoration, but for use against India.
<a href="https://www.wionews.com/pakistan/our-missiles-are-not-for-decoration-pakistani-minister-threatens-india-in-video-says-130-nukes-hanif-abbasi-pahalgam-terror-attack-hammu-and-kashmir-9007072">'Our missiles are not for decoration': Pakistan minister threatens India in video, says 130 nukes...</a>
Whatever can be gathered about Pakistan's nuclear weapons stance is from public statements, military press releases and global think tank analyses.
Pakistan also stresses on credible minimum deterrence. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/inside-india-pakistans-nuclear-arsenals-who-has-more-and-what-would-happen-if-new-delhi-islamabad-unleash-their-nukes-pahalgam-terror-attack-9007737">Inside India, Pakistan&rsquo;s nuclear arsenals: Who has more, and what would happen if New Delhi, Islamabad unleash their nukes?</a>
Pakistan&rsquo;s tactical nuclear weapons, such as the Nasr missile, were developed with the explicit intention to counter India's Cold Start doctrine.&nbsp;
<h2>First-Use Policy of Pakistan's nuclear weapons</h2>
If one goes by the public statements made by Pakistani generals, the country 'reserves the right' to use nuclear weapons in retaliation against a conventional war.
The nuclear positioning of Pakistan aims to deter India's strength in conventional warfare and its obvious military superiority.&nbsp;
As per claims, and reports available with international observers, Pakistan has achieved credible minimum deterrence, meaning it has enough arsenal to deter aggression.
&nbsp;
<h2>Full Spectrum Deterrence (FSD) in Pakistan's nuclear weapons approach&nbsp;</h2>
Like India, Pakistan also has a nuclear triad involving land, air and sea.
It is reported to possess strategic, operational and tactical nuclear warheads.
Pakistan's nuclear weapons are capable of travelling beyond 3000 kilometres.
This means, at least in theory, it can strike all the way down to southern or eastern India.
&nbsp;
<h2>When Pakistan could use nuclear weapons: Four triggers </h2>
Pakistan has refined its triggers, or nuclear thresholds, while still keeping ambiguity about when it could use atomic weapons.
The four triggers are classified as spatial threshold, military threshold, economic threshold, and political threshold.
Spatial threshold will be triggered in case of Indian military penetration into Pakistani territory, such as the Indus Valley.
Military threshold means destruction of Pakistani armed forces assets, especially its air force, or use of chemical or biological weapons in its territory.
Economic threshold could be breached if actions are taken by the enemy state to strangle the Pakistani economy, for instance, a naval blockade.
It is quite possible, theoretically, that Pakistan can interpret India's abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty as breaching its economic threshold on the use of nuclear weapons.
The fourth trigger, the political threshold, will be the attack on Pakistan&rsquo;s internal stability by the enemy state.
&nbsp;
<h2>Pakistan's nuclear Command and Control setup</h2>
Pakistan's nuclear command and control is very similar to India's.
It is managed by a National Command Authority or NCA), chaired by the country's prime minister.
A Strategic Plans Division (SPD) oversees nuclear weapons policy, strategy, and operations.
It has been reported that lower-level military officials may have got delegated authority on use of tactical nuclear weapons.
&nbsp;
<h2>Pakistan's strategic ambiguity on nuclear weapons can be a headache for the world</h2>
The lack of a detailed doctrine is part of Pakistan's strategic ambiguity on nuclear weapons.
This allows the leaders and the military to make statements to deter adversaries, essentially leading to nuclear sabrerattling. They feel that this ambiguity on nuclear weapons use would deter the enemy from breaching its thresholds mentioned above. At the same time, this strategic ambiguity is likely to be a threat to the world. Particularly given Pakistans' history of the military taking over power. Now you know why I mentioned the monkey and the jasmine flower.

India's stance on global disarmament: A responsible nuclear power opposed to discrimination In the international fora, India has made its stance clear on nuclear weapons by advocating a global, non-discriminatory and verifiable disarmament. India, in summary, is a responsible nuclear power India has used its weapons for deterrence while being committed to restraint. Pakistan's nuclear doctrine is not codified The first thing you should note is that there is no formal, single public document that codifies Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine. The second thing you should note is that Pakistan is not committed to, in fact explicitly opposes, no-first-use policy on nuclear weapons. This is what gives politicians the freedom to talk loose: one minister recently said Pakistan's nuclear weapons are not for decoration, but for use against India. 'Our missiles are not for decoration': Pakistan minister threatens India in video, says 130 nukes... Whatever can be gathered about Pakistan's nuclear weapons stance is from public statements, military press releases and global think tank analyses. Pakistan also stresses on credible minimum deterrence. Inside India, Pakistan’s nuclear arsenals: Who has more, and what would happen if New Delhi, Islamabad unleash their nukes? Pakistan’s tactical nuclear weapons, such as the Nasr missile, were developed with the explicit intention to counter India's Cold Start doctrine. First-Use Policy of Pakistan's nuclear weapons If one goes by the public statements made by Pakistani generals, the country 'reserves the right' to use nuclear weapons in retaliation against a conventional war. The nuclear positioning of Pakistan aims to deter India's strength in conventional warfare and its obvious military superiority. As per claims, and reports available with international observers, Pakistan has achieved credible minimum deterrence, meaning it has enough arsenal to deter aggression. Full Spectrum Deterrence (FSD) in Pakistan's nuclear weapons approach Like India, Pakistan also has a nuclear triad involving land, air and sea. It is reported to possess strategic, operational and tactical nuclear warheads. Pakistan's nuclear weapons are capable of travelling beyond 3000 kilometres. This means, at least in theory, it can strike all the way down to southern or eastern India. When Pakistan could use nuclear weapons: Four triggers Pakistan has refined its triggers, or nuclear thresholds, while still keeping ambiguity about when it could use atomic weapons. The fourth trigger, the political threshold, will be the attack on Pakistan’s internal stability by the enemy state. Pakistan's nuclear Command and Control setup Pakistan's nuclear command and control is very similar to India's. Pakistan's strategic ambiguity on nuclear weapons can be a headache for the world The lack of a detailed doctrine is part of Pakistan's strategic ambiguity on nuclear weapons.

Don't give jasmine flowers to a monkey: Pakistan's nuclear war loose talk and India's no first use policy, compared

Indo Pak war in 2025 - the study that probably got the year right talked about a nuclear war too:&nbsp; A study from 2019 got the possible year of a potential India-Pakistan war eerily close to reality. It said the war could happen in 2025, and now, a military confrontation between India and Pakistan seems likely in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22. The study had projected several things, but the main focus was on what would happen if the war goes nuclear. Here is what it said:

<h2>Who did the study on Indo-Pak war in 2025?</h2>
The study was led by University of Colorado scientists, along with Rutgers University researchers.&nbsp;It was published in the Science Advances journal.
The study used inputs from US National Center for Atmospheric Research, Federation of American Scientists, Natural Resources Defense Council, University of Texas Rio Grande and University of California at Los Angeles.
<h2>Why was the study on Indo-Pak war in 2025 carried out?</h2>
The main purpose of the study was to warn against a nuclear war, and to emphasise the importance of the global conventions against it .
Specifically, it highlighted the importance of the 2017 UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
The authors carried out projections based on available data at the time, to show how devastating an atomic war between the two south Asian notions could be, not only for the region but also for the whole world.
<h2>What did the 2019 study on Indo-Pak conflict say about nuclear war?</h2>
&nbsp;
As per the study, in case of a nuclear war, 100 million people would die immediately.&nbsp;
Between 50 million and 125 million people could die from after-effects of the war, if India used 100 nuclear strategic weapons and Pakistan used 150, projected the study, using computer simulations.

<h2>The 2019 study projected up to 500 nuclear weapons for India, Pakistan in 2025&nbsp;</h2>
&nbsp;
India and Pakistan have been traditionally described by security analysts as two nuclear-armed states within striking distance of each other.

As per the projections in the 2019 study, India could have a combined 400 to 500 nuclear weapons by 2025.
The explosive power of these weapons could range anywhere from 15 kilotonnes. That's&nbsp;15,000 tonnes of TNT, similar to the US bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.
<h2>A nuclear war aftermath: projections by the study</h2>
&nbsp;
The explosions from nuclear weapons of India and Pakistan, if used, could lead to fires that can release 16 million to 36 mn tonnes of soot, or black carbon.

This smoke would go into the Earth's upper atmosphere and cover the whole world within weeks.
As per the study's projections, the soot would absorb solar radiation and heat the air.
<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/pm-modi-cancels-russia-visit-for-victory-day-parade-on-may-9-india-will-be-represented-at-different-level-9017892">PM Modi cancels Russia visit for Victory Day Parade on May 9, India will be represented at different level</a>
As a result of the spreading smoke, sunlight would decline by up to 35 per cent, the study projected.
This will in turn lead to the cooling of the Earth's surface by up to 5 degrees Celsius.
Precipitation will come down by up to 30 per cent.
<h2>Environmental impact of an Indo-Pak nuclear war&nbsp;</h2>
&nbsp;
The study projected a fall in vegetation growth by up to 30 per cent. Ocean productivity would decline by up to 15 per cent.&nbsp;
It said that these impacts would take at least 10 years to recover from, as the smoke would stay in the atmosphere.

A Pune-based man has claimed that he has video of the terrorists in Pahalgam's Baisaran valley that he accidentally captured while filming his daughter's reel. He has shared the video with the National Investigative Agency (NIA) for probe, he said.
In the video, a child can be seen dancing when two men - who allegedly carried out the attack - were seen. The man claimed that he identified the men after J&amp;K Police released their sketches and decided to share the evidence with the investigative agencies. The Pune man has identified himself as social activist Sreejit Rameshan, who along with his family went on a tour to Pahalgam but fortunately, returned before the fatal attack happened.
&ldquo;We started receiving frantic calls and messages from worried friends and relatives,&rdquo; Rameshan told Punekar News. He added that the video was captured at 02:38 pm on April 18. He further claimed that the men in his video are similar to the sketches released by the administration. "The resemblance was unmistakable." He sent the video to NIA demanding a thorough verification &ldquo;purely in the interest of national safety&rdquo;.&nbsp;

A Pune-based man has claimed that he has video of the terrorists in Pahalgam's Baisaran valley that he accidentally captured while filming his daughter's reel.

The man claimed that he identified the men after J&K Police released their sketches and decided to share the evidence with the investigative agencies. The Pune man has identified himself as social activist Sreejit Rameshan, who along with his family went on a tour to Pahalgam but fortunately, returned before the fatal attack happened. “We started receiving frantic calls and messages from worried friends and relatives,” Rameshan told Punekar News. He added that the video was captured at 02:38 pm on April 18. He further claimed that the men in his video are similar to the sketches released by the administration. "The resemblance was unmistakable." He sent the video to NIA demanding a thorough verification “purely in the interest of national safety”. Man claims he captured Pahalgam terrorists on video while making reel, submits footage to NIA

Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar held an emergency press conference at 2 am, claiming that his country has "credible information" suggesting India plans military action within the next 24-36 hours.
He then warned of "catastrophic consequences" if Indian forces proceed, amid escalating tensions between the two nations following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.&nbsp;
In a video message posted online, he said, "We have credible intelligence-based information that India is planning a military offensive against Pakistan within the next 24 to 36 hours. Any action by India will be responded to with full force."
Tara then said that his country would respond with its full might at all costs.
"The nation will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all means necessary. If India tries to impose a war on Pakistan, it will be solely responsible for the disastrous and devastating costs."
He further accused India of planning an attack on the basis of "baseless and concocted allegations", claiming that New Delhi did not provide any evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Twenty-six people were killed and many injured in India's Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday (Apr 22) when terrorists opened fire in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the Himalayan region in a quarter of a century.&nbsp;
Tarar's claims come amid Pakistan's repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, attempting to provoke Indian soldiers stationed along the boundary separating Indian and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

<h2>Deputy PM Ishaq Dar admits Pakistan backs Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy TRF &nbsp;</h2>
Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in a big acceptance told Pakistan's upper house on Tuesday that Islamabad had an objection to the language used in a press release issued unanimously by the council for the Pahalgam attack.&nbsp;
He said Pakistan objected to the "condemnation of The Resistance Front (TRF)".&nbsp;
In a way, Pakistan FM Dar acknowledged Islamabad's support to Lashkar-e-Taiba's proxy TRF as he confirmed that the country got the terror group's name removed from the UNSC statement condemning the Pahalgam terror attack.&nbsp;
Notably, TRF had taken responsibility for the attack in which innocent civilians were brutally killed, but later they denied it, with reports linking the terrorist group directly to the Pakistan Army.&nbsp;
Some media reports claimed that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir personally directed the Lashkar-e-Taiba leadership to ensure the TRF withdrew its earlier statement on the Pahalgam attack.&nbsp;
The UNSC statement condemned the terror attack, but it didn't mention TRF. Part of the statement read, "The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government of India and Government of Nepal and wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured."&nbsp;
"The members of the Security Council underlined the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice. &nbsp;They stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard," it added.&nbsp;

Pakistan acknowledged its support to Lashkar-e-Taiba's proxy TRF as he confirmed that the country got the terror group's name removed from the UNSC statement

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made a big acceptance in connection to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) statement on April 25 condemning the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Dar told Pakistan's upper house on Tuesday that Islamabad had an objection to the language used in a press release issued unanimously by the council for the Pahalgam attack. He said Pakistan objected to the "condemnation of The Resistance Front (TRF)". Notably, TRF had taken responsibility for the attack in which innocent civilians were brutally killed, but later they denied it, with reports linking the terrorist group directly to the Pakistan Army. Some media reports claimed that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir personally directed the Lashkar-e-Taiba leadership to ensure TRF withdrew its earlier statement on the Pahalgam attack. Speaking on Samaa TV in Pakistan, Afridi reacted to the terrorist attack in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</a>, saying even if a cracker bursts in that part of the country, everyone starts blaming Pakistan for it, adding that India has deployed over 800,000 soldiers there. Despite that, if an attack happens on their soil, then their armed forces should be blamed for that, calling them ineffective and useless.
The comment made by Afridi did not go down well with Dhawan. The left-handed batter took to the social media site X and put up a scathing response.
He wrote, "Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Two terrorists involved in the attack are Pakistani nationals: Hashim Musa alias Suleman and Ali Bhai alias Talha. The third, Abdul Hussain Thokar, is a resident of Anantnag in Kashmir. In a stern response to Pakistan after the attack, India has halted the Indus Waters Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, expelled its diplomats, called back Indian officials from Islamabad and closed Attari border. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I say to the whole world. India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth."
Pakistan, in its first response, said that it had "nothing to do" with the attack. The neighbouring country claimed that the attack was a reaction by those who opposed the Indian government. Notably, Pakistan did not condemn the attack. Moreover, in a tit-for-tat move, Pakistan announced reciprocal action against India similar to the action taken by New Delhi and warned of ending the Simla Agreement. On Saturday, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif issued his first reaction and accused India of "levelling false allegations," and called for a "credible probe." He also threatened to use "force and might" over the Indus Waters Treaty.

In the wake of a deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 people, Pakistan&rsquo;s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has claimed that an Indian military incursion into Pakistan is imminent. The attack, which occurred in the tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, has sparked outrage in India.
<h2>Pakistan's defence minister raises alarm</h2>
During an interview in Islamabad, Defence Minister Asif told Reuters that Pakistan had reinforced its military forces in response to rising rhetoric from India. "We have reinforced our forces because it is something which is imminent now. So in that situation, some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken," he said.

Asif also warned that the Pakistani military had briefed the government on the possibility of an Indian incursion. However, he stopped short of providing specifics about why he believed such an attack was imminent.
Following the attack, Indian authorities identified two of the suspected militants involved as Pakistani nationals. In response, Islamabad has denied any involvement and called for a neutral investigation into the incident.
<h2>Pakistan on high alert</h2>
"We are on high alert, and if there is a direct threat to our existence, then we will have to take appropriate measures," he added.

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) launched two significant air&nbsp;combat exercises on Monday (April 28), taking place in the Central and Northern Air Commands.
Titled "Fiza-e-Badr" and "Lalkar-e-Momin," the exercises will run simultaneously in the respective Areas of Responsibility (AORs) of the Northern and Central commands.
During these operations, the PAF will deploy a large portion of its manned combat fleet, alongside unmanned systems, long-range air defence units, and electronic warfare capabilities.
<h2>Calls for an international investigation</h2>
Asif sought the support of global powers like Russia, China, and even Western countries to launch an independent investigation into the events surrounding the terror strike. Speaking to Russian news agency RIA Novosti, Asif suggested that countries like Russia or China could play a significant role in establishing an impartial investigation team to determine whether India&rsquo;s version of the events was accurate.

'On high alert': Pakistan alleges 'imminent' Indian strike after Pahalgam terror attack: Is Islamabad bracing for war?

Pakistani interior minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, in his latest statement, tried his best to defend his country and to shift the blame for the Pahalgam terrorist attack, but the problem is, he chose to boast about Pakistani economy - which is on IMF lifesupport right now.&nbsp;
Naqvi said that "Pakistan&rsquo;s economic stability is intolerable for India," The Express Tribune reported. His decision to use Pakistan's economy as a tool to dodge off the accountability came after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 that took 26 innocent lives on the Indian soil.&nbsp;

"The world must see how the country that claims to be the largest democracy is using terrorism to achieve its objectives," Naqvi added.&nbsp;
The Pakistani minister went ahead to stoop more and called the terror attack a "drama".
"It is astonishing that an FIR (First Information Report) was registered within ten minutes of the incident.&nbsp;Normally, a crime scene is sealed off for several hours for investigation," the minister said.&nbsp;
The Pakistani minister, like his prime minister, calld out for an investigation into the attack by a "third-party" to check if PM Modi "is lying" or not.&nbsp;

Contrary to Naqvi's fantasy, Pakistan's economy is in as miserable condition as one can think of. In case Naqvi missed it, Pakistan is now world's fourth-largest borrower from the IMF (International Monetary Fund).&nbsp;
The country is stuck under $10.4 billion loan, clearly showing Pakistan is everything but an economically stable country.&nbsp;
As per the data till March 2023, Inflation in Pakistan touched 35.37 per cent. This was the highest in nearly 50 years in the country's history.
Pakistan is also going through a crisis as its public debt continues to spiral, with most of its budget being eaten up loan installments.&nbsp;
Hence, there is no &ldquo;economic miracle&rdquo; in Pakistan that India would be jealous of. All one can see is a country which is struggling with its debt-ridden economy surviving on international bailouts.

'Our economic stability intolerable for India': Pakistan minister's blame game on Pahalgam attack while his country is on IMF lifesupport

As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, reports now suggest that Pakistan&rsquo;s Air Force (PAF) has received a shipment of China&rsquo;s advanced PL-15 air-to-air missiles.
Recent images released by PAF show the latest JF-17 Block III fighter jets carrying PL-15 Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles.
As per a report by Eurasian Times, the missiles delivered to PAF were sourced directly from China&rsquo;s People&rsquo;s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), and not the export model known as PL-15E. If true, it would suggest a fast-tracked weapons delivery from China to Pakistan at a time when the threat of conflict between the two neighbours is running high.
The PL-15&rsquo;s extended range could give Pakistani pilots the ability to target Indian aircraft from much farther away, offering a potential advantage if hostilities escalate.

<h2>What is the PL-15 missile?</h2>
The PL-15 is a key part of China&rsquo;s plans for modern air combat. Developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a state-run aerospace company, it is an active radar-guided, long-range air-to-air missile.
It uses a dual-pulse solid rocket motor and features an AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar. This, along with a two-way datalink, allows for precise mid-air adjustments, improving accuracy during missions.
The missile has a reported range between 200 and 300 kilometres (120&ndash;190 miles) and can fly at speeds above Mach 5. At the Zhuhai Air Show last year, China displayed an upgraded version with folding fins, making it possible for fighter jets like the J-20 to carry six missiles instead of four.

The TRF had proudly taken credit for the massacre earlier but after coming under pressure from their handlers in Pakistan, the terror organisation disowned the attack. It called the earlier claim "unauthorised" and &nbsp;alleged that their digital channels had been compromised.
This is not the first time that Pakistan has resorted to such tactics. During the 2019 Pulwama terror attack too Pakistan had tried to distance itself from any international scrutiny, while giving shape to terror activities in India.
There are also media reports claiming that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir personally directed the Lashkar-e-Taiba leadership to ensure TRF withdrew its earlier statement on the Pahalgam attack.
<h2>Emergence of proxy terrorist organisations</h2>
The organisation is not an isolated entity but a proxy of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. In January 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had declared the TRF a &ldquo;terrorist organisation&rdquo; under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) after the organisation issued threats to journalists in Kashmir.
In recent years, newer outfits such as TRF, PAFF (People's Anti-Fascist Front), and United Liberation Front (ULF) have emerged shedding their Islamist labels of LeT or Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).&nbsp;
They appear secular, political in their rhetoric but are proxy arms of Pakistan-based jihadist groups and tread the same path.

Pahalgam attack: TRF terrorists claim they're not involved amid fury and punishment of Pakistan by India

Four days after the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has repeated the &lsquo;jugular vein&rsquo; remark&nbsp;made by Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir on Kashmir. In his first reaction, Sharif said that the Jammu and Kashmir attack is an example of "blame game", adding that he is ready for a "neutral investigation". Accusing India of "levelling baseless allegations", the Pakistani PM said that his country does not tolerate terrorism of any hue and colour. Addressing a graduation ceremony at Pakistan Military Academy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kakul, Pakistan PM Sharif said that his country will take part in the probe if it is "credible."
"On the contrary, our eastern neighbour continues a pattern of exploitation, levelling baseless allegations and false accusations without credible investigation or verifiable evidence. The recent tragedy in Pahalgam is yet another example of the perpetual blame game. The recent tragedy in Pahalgam is yet another example of this perpetual blame game, which must come to a grinding halt now. Continuing with its role as a responsible country, Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent and credible investigation," Pakistan PM Sharif said.

<h2>Pahalgam terror attack: Pakistan's response and India's action</h2>
The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the horrific terror attack. The Jammu and Kashmir Police released sketches of three suspects linked to the attack and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakhs for those who give any information about them. Two terrorists involved in the attack are Pakistani nationals: Hashim Musa alias Suleman and Ali Bhai alias Talha. The third, Abdul Hussain Thokar, is a resident of Anantnag in Kashmir. His home along with the homes of four other terrorists have been demolished in the crackdown by J&amp;K Police.&nbsp;
In a stern response to Pakistan after the attack, India has halted the Indus Water Treaty, downgraded diplomatic ties, expelled its diplomats, called back Indian officials from Islamabad and closed Attari border. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I say to the whole world. India will identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth."
Pakistan, in its first response, said that it had "nothing to do" with the attack. The neighbouring country claimed that the attack was a reaction by those who opposed the Indian government. Notably, Pakistan did not condemn the attack. Moreover, in a tit-for-tat move, Pakistan announced reciprocal action against India similar to the action taken by New Delhi and warned of ending the Simla Agreement.&nbsp;

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif refuses to condemn Pahalgam terror attack in his first reaction, repeats Asim Munir's 'jugular vein' remark

Under immense international pressure over the Pahalgam terror attack in India's Jammu and Kashmir in which 27 tourists were killed, Pakistan has again denied its role in the attack and said an international investigation is needed into the terror incident.
Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, while speaking to the New York Times on Friday (April 25) said, Islamabad was &ldquo;ready to cooperate&rdquo; with any probe conducted by &ldquo;international inspectors&rdquo;.
India says three of the gunmen involved in the attack are members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, a UN-designated terrorist organisation, and issued a bounty for their arrest. However, Pakistan denies any involvement in the attack.
<h2>India takes steps to punish Pakistan</h2>
In retaliation India announced a slew of punitive measures against Pakistan, including expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and immediate shutting down of the Attari land-transit post.
All Pakistanis, who have entered India via the Attari land border have also been asked by the Centre to leave by May 1.
<h2>Asif's Defense</h2>
The Pakistan defence minister claimed that India used the terror attack as a pretext to suspend the Indus Water Treaty and announce other punitive measures. He accused New Delhi of taking steps to punish Pakistan &ldquo;without any proof and investigation&rdquo;.
"We do not want this war to flare up, because flaring up of this war can cause disaster for this region,&rdquo; Asif was quoted as saying by Asif.
He also claimed that LeT was &ldquo;defunct&rdquo; and had &ldquo;no ability to plan or conduct&rdquo; attacks from Pakistan-controlled territory.
<h2>Emergence of proxy terrorist organisations</h2>
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF).

'Do not want war to flare up' | Pakistan denies hand in Pahalgam terror attack, seeks ‘international probe’: Report

A Pakistan link has been established with the horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were brutally killed, WION has learned from a source. In the aftermath of the dastardly attack, India briefed foreign diplomats on Pakistan's involvement on Thursday, the source said.&nbsp;
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to many world leaders and informed them about the attack. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other senior officials in the foreign ministry have spoken to many ambassadors and conveyed the same.&nbsp;

Taking immediate action, New Delhi suspended a water-sharing treaty, announced the closure of the main land border crossing with Pakistan and withdrew visas for Pakistanis a day after the attack. &nbsp;
India has also often said that terrorism is being funded and promoted in Pakistan, but the international community remained mum. Now, in a brazen act, Pakistan Defence Minister Asif Khawaja, in a Sky News interview, admitted that Islamabad has been doing "dirty work for the United States" for three decades by backing, supporting, training and funding terrorist organisations.&nbsp;
