Dakota transport plane arrives in India
The iconic transport airport operated in the Indian Air Force till 1988.
The vintage World War II Dakota DC31 aircraft arrived in Air Force station Jamnagar, Gujarat on Wednesday.
The transport aircraft will fly into Air Force Station Hindan in Ghaziabad on Thursday to be inducted in into the vintage fleet of the Indian Air Force.
The plane had begun its journey from Coventry in the UK and reached Jamnagar today.
The aircraft has been gifted to the IAF by BJP Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar, whose father Air Commodore M K Chandrasekhar was a Dakota pilot in the IAF.
"Post completion of custom formalities, the aircraft is planned to ferry from Jamnagar to Hindan Air Force Station on April 26, for its induction into the Vintage Aircraft Fleet of the IAF formed in 2012,", the Defence ministry said in a statement.

The iconic transport airport operated in the Indian Air Force till 1988, however it rose again after it was taken out of scrap seven years ago by Chandresekhar and gifted to the Air Force.
The plane had played a central role in India's push to transport troops to Kashmir during the Indo-Pak war in 1948.
The induction ceremony for the Dakota is slated to take place on May 4th at Hindan air base in Delhi.
