The Unnao gang rape case has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation after the intervention of the Prime Minister's Office, ANI reported Thursday quoting sources.

The police have however refused to arrest him, saying the CBI will do it.

The case came to light after the girl and her family tried to commit suicide outside UP Chier Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence recently.

A few days later the girl's father died, reportedly in police custody.

It was after that that Adityanath said his government would take action, and that nobody — no matter how powerful — would be spared.
