A Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist who plotted last month’s attack at an army camp in Sunjuwan was killed in a gun battle in south Kashmir, sources in the security forces said on Monday.

Mufti Waqas, the mastermind of the February 10 attack that left seven people,  was killed in an encounter with the Army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir’s Police in Pulwama’s Lethpora.

Shesh Paul Vaid, the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, said on Twitter that the terrorist has been gunned down.

"Waqas, the operation commander of JeM, eliminated in Awantipora. He was the mastermind behind several terrorist attacks on security forces including Sunjuwan attack. Weapons & incriminating materials like IED preparation material recovered. He is a foreign terrorist," said Kashmir IG SP Pani.

One policeman also sustained minor injuries in the encounter and was shifted to a nearby hospital.
