A seven-year-old girl died in Gurugram's Fortis Memorial Research Institute after undergoing treatment for dengue for 15 days.

The deceased's parents were not allowed to take the body of their daughter until they paid the outstanding bill of Rs 16 lakh, reports said.

The parents of the girl claimthat the hospital staff kept their daughter on the ventilator for three days even after she had stopped responding to the treatment.

The child died on 14 September 2017.

The hospital, on the other hand, claims that there was nothing wrong on their part and that they followed all "standard medical protocols and clinical guidelines".

The hospital authorities said that the girl was brought to their hospital from another hospital on the morning of August 31, 2017. The girl was admitted with severe dengue which progressed to dengue shock syndrome.

The hospital claims that there was a progressive fall in her platelet count and hemoconcentration.With consistent deteriorating of her health, the girl was put on on ventilator support within 48 hours.

It further said that they were continuously updating the parents of the critical condition of the child.

According to the hospital, the parents decided to take the daughter out of the hospital on 14th September. Their decision was against medical advice (LAMA-Leave Against Medical Advice). The hospital said that girl died on the same day.

The Union Health Minister has assured to take cognition of the matter.
