Prime Minister Modi today held a meeting with the Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in South Africa.
The meeting between the two leaders is expected to resolve the ties that Indian and China developed during the Doklam issue.
Speaking about the meeting, Foreign Secretary V Gokhale said, "Both PM Modi and President Xi Jinping have reaffirmed once again their readiness to give the necessary direction to their militaries to enhance communications between them and to maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas".
He further added, "An important issue which PM Modi has raised with President Jinping at his previous meetings is how to enhance Indian exports to China, particularly agricultural exports. It has been decided that an Indian trade delegation will be travelling to China on August 1 and 2."
The two leaders earlier met in June in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in China.
The meeting of Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Jinping also comes three months after the informal summit held in China's Wuhan city.
At the Wuhan meeting, the two leaders discussedviews on solidifying the bilateral relationship betweenIndia and China.
Earlier, the Prime Minister also met with President of South Africa Cyril Ramphosa.
He is also slated to meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the summit.
The theme of this year's summit is "BRICS in Africa - collaboration for inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the 4th industrial revolution".
Besides Prime Minister Modi, heads of the four other BRICS nations - Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa - will take part in the meeting.
The three-day summit began yesterday with the BRICS Business Forum Meet.
