Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone of National Centre for Aging at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi.
With the new introduction, the government aims to increase the facilities at all the campuses in AIIMS. The National Centre will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore and will include 200 beds.
The government also introduced plans for 555-bed Super Speciality Block in Safdarjung Hospital and a 300-bed Power Grid Vishram Sadan in AIIMS.
Addressing the event after the inauguration he said that during the last four years, the Centre has given priority to the health sector to provide modern healthcare to the people.
He added that the centre along with the state governments is trying to build infrastructure for modern healthcare to benefit the poor and the middle class of the country.
"Because of policy interventions of the government, we are moving towards a situation where we are providing good healthcare for the poor and middle class so that they don't have to pay unnecessary cost for healthcare," he said.
The PM said, "Seeing the increasing pressure on AIIMS, we are increasing facilities at all of its campuses. Today foundation stone of National Centre for Aging, which will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore was laid. This will have 200 beds".
Connection Motorable Tunnel between AIIMS, Ansari Nagar and Trauma Centre will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister today.
This tunnel costing Rs 40 crore will shorten the distance to reach the trauma centre and the critical patients can be transferred from the hospital to the trauma centre in just five minutes, which took 30 minutes earlier.
The constriction of the tunnel was started in 2012.
