One dead, fire reported at Indian Oil plant in Chennai

Five fire tenders were rushed to the Indian Oil facility in Tondiarpet area of Chennai

One person was killed while another was reportedinjured after an explosion at an Indian Oil Corporation plant in southern India's Chennai city.

The facility is located at Chennai's Todiarpet area.

A Fire and Rescue Services official cited by The Indian Express said thatthe incident took place when workers were engaged in completing tasks like welding "in an ethanol storage tank" after it was emptied.

Five fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot.

"When we arrived, the fire had already been doused as the IOCL has in-house arrangements and fire safety mechanisms," an official was quoted as saying by publication.

A worker reportedly a welder, died on the spot, whereas another worker who is severely injured was rescued by authorities and admitted in hospital.
