Mumbai, India
Mumbai police have increased security in busy areas of the city following warnings from central agencies about a possible terror threat. Extra precautions are being taken at religious sites and other crowded spots across the metropolis, reported various media outlets.
Law enforcement officers have been instructed to carry out "mock drills" at these locations to ensure preparedness, reports further said.
Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have also been directed to closely monitor security arrangements within their respective zones.
Additionally, temples in the city have been advised to stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities as a preventive measure.

After recently celebrating the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Mumbai is now preparing for Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali.
Devendra Fadnavis says officers will not "stand by" if attacked
Meanwhile, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, said on Thursday, September 27, 2024, that the State government does not support police encounters but added that officers will not "stand by" if attacked.
His comments followed an incident in Thane's Badlapur, where police shot and killed a man accused of sexually assaulting two young girls earlier in the week.
While speaking at an event hosted by a news channel in Mumbai, Fadnavis, who also oversees the Home Department, explained that the suspect, Akshay Shinde, was killed in "self-defence." Shinde reportedly tried to assault the police officers escorting him. The event occurred while Shinde was being transferred from Taloja jail to Badlapur. According to the police, Shinde grabbed an officer's firearm and began shooting, which led the police to respond by firing back and killing him.
