A woman in Utter Pradesh was allegedly abducted along with her family and gang-raped by relatives of another woman who ran away with her son, police informed on Saturday.

A case of gang-rape was reported to the police on Friday at Nojal village in Shamli district, superintendent of police Ajay Pal Sharma told reporters in Muzaffarnagar.

According to Sharma, the woman's son, a resident of Bhopura village, allegedly fell in love with a woman from Muzaffarnagar, who was studying in Ghaziabad. 

The two eloped on November 20.

As revenge, her family members abducted the man’s brother, mother who is in her 40s, father and his brother-in-law on December 19 and locked them in a house in Shamli district, media reports said.

They were then threatened and assaulted by the accused who also gang-raped the mother. 

They were rescued on December 25 after the police raided the house.

The girl’s father, his two brothers, one of who is a former village gram pradhan, and his son were booked by police, he said.

The former gram pradhan was arrested while the other accused are being searched for, the official said.
