Bharatiya Janata Party leader Piyush Goyal took oath as Union Cabinet Minister at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday (Jun 9).
Goyal won his debut Lok Sabha poll from the Mumbai North constituency with an impressive vote margin.
He defeated Congress' Bhushan Patil by 3,57,608 votes, which was the highest margin in Maharashtra.
Goyal served as the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles, and Leader of the House, Rajya Sabha during Modi's second term (2019-2024).
He previously has helmed the Ministry of Railways, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Coal, Power, New and Renewable Energy, and Mines.

Goyal has held several integral positions in the saffron party and has also been its National Treasurer.
Under his tenure, India recorded its highest-ever exports of about $776 Bn in 2022-23.
The other key milestones achieved during his tenure are:
- He led the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with UAE and the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).
- Supervised the launch of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes to boost the Make In India initiative.
- Spearheaded the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), which is also termed the world's largest food security program, in which free foodgrainwas distributed to approximately 80 crore people over a period of two years.
- He helped the country achieve the best-ever safety record of zero passenger deaths in rail accidents as the Minister of Railways.
- He implemented the LED bulb distribution program (UJALA).
Education
Goyal is an all-India second-rank holder Chartered Accountant and a second-rank holder in law from Mumbai University.
He was also a renowned investment banker. His father, Late Vedprakash Goyal served as Union Minister of Shipping, and was the National Treasurer of the BJP for more than twenty years.
