Maharashtra: Two children aged nine die by drowning in roadside water pit

Two children, aged nine years old, died by drowning in a pit in Maharashtra’s Gondia district late Tuesday evening.
Police officials saidClass 3 students Alok Bhagchand Bisen and Prince Kishore Rahangdale lost their lives in Dasgaon (Khurd) village when they were walking home from school with another friend on Tuesday.
One of the boys, Bisen fell into a water-filled pit on the roadside after getting close to it. Seeing this, Rahangdale rushed to save him, but he also lost his balance and fell into the same pit.
Police officials said that for a few hours, nobody knew about the incident.
"The third boy who was with them was quite shocked to witness all this right in front of him. So, it took him a while to inform others, as he was too shocked to talk about the incident at his home or with his friends. But after some time, when his parents observed his disturbed behaviour, he told them about the incident, and they informed the victims' parents,"added a police official from Rawanvadi police station.
The boys’ bodies were discovered when their families and locals began searching for them in the evening.

In the recentpast, there have been similar instances where children have lost their lives by falling into pits. Two children, aged 9 and 15 years, drowned in a pond filled with rainwater in outer Delhi’s Prem Nagar area after heavy rains.
In Visakhapatnam, two children drowned in a tank near DV Palem under Pamur police station limits in Prakasam district last week. The cops said that a group of eight boys had gone to the tank for a joy trip. While they were playing with water, two children suddenly drowned.
A month ago, four children drowned in a pond near Yamuna Expressway in Agra.
In another incident, three schoolchildren, including two sisters, all aged below 11, allegedly drowned in a river while attempting to pluck jamun fruits from a tree in the state of Tamil Nadu. In cases like the above, no one was present nearby to rescue them or alert the police or fire and rescue team.
