ED searches IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar’s Bengaluru and Bareilly premises in a PMLA probe into alleged KPSC veterinary exam irregularities
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday searched the premises of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in Bengaluru and Bareilly as part of its money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in an examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), officials said.
Gangwar, a 2016-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, is currently serving as Director-MSME in the Karnataka Department of Industries and Commerce. He previously served as Controller of Examinations at the KPSC and was removed from the position in March this year, according to news agency PTI. The searches at Gangwar’s premises in Bengaluru and Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, were conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Officials said it was not immediately known whether Gangwar was present at either location during the searches.
The development comes a day after reports claimed that Gangwar had gone ‘missing’ for a few hours. Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge subsequently dismissed the reports, stating that Gangwar was in his native place in Uttar Pradesh due to a family emergency concerning his father’s health.
The latest searches were conducted days after the ED launched its first round of searches in the case on August 18. During that operation, the agency searched the KPSC office in Bengaluru as well as the premises of former chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar, member Shanta Hosmani and others. The ED investigation is connected to an alleged money laundering case involving irregularities in a KPSC recruitment examination for veterinary officers.
This is not the ED’s first action in the case. On August 18, the agency searched the KPSC headquarters in Bengaluru, along with the premises of former chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar, member Shanta Hosmani and others. The wider investigation focuses on alleged financial irregularities in the recruitment examination for Veterinary Officers.
