The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday (Sep 14)detained the ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,Sandip Ghosh, and a police officer for the delay in registering the FIR in connection with the rape and murder case of a junior medic in the Indian city of Kolkatalast month.
Ghosh was previously detained forfinancial irregularities in a separate case. He is in judicial custody till September 23.
The CBI has accusedGhosh of misleading the investigators and hiding the evidence.
The federal investigative agency had conducted a second round of polygraph tests on the ex-principal on August 26 as part of their probe into the rape and murder case.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the national ruling party and the opposition party in West Bengal state, had accused Ghosh of ordering an urgent renovation of a site near the hall where the dead body of the victim was found.Union minister and West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar shared a purported letter, allegedly signed by Ghosh, which authorised the renovation work.

“The order, signed by Sandip Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Medical College, is dated August 10, just one day after the victim's death. Despite allegations from colleagues and protesters about tampering with the crime scene, the Police Commissioner denied it,” the BJP leader had posted on X.
Abhijit Mondal, SHO Tala PS has also been arrested by the CBI and he will be produced in court on Sunday (Sep 15).
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari demanded the resignation of West BengalChief Minister Mamata Banerjee and immediate suspension of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal following the arrest ofSHO Tala PS.
"The arrest of Abhijit Mondal; Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station (PS), has established that the Police were directly involved in tampering evidence and acted as a stimulant to create lacuna in order to derail the investigation into the Rape and Murder of the RG Kar PGT Lady Doctor. The procedural lapses were well orchestrated and closely monitored by the top officials of @KolkataPolice," Adhikari wrote on X.
