
Protesting doctors in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on Wednesday (Sep 11) demanded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee be present during their meeting with government officials.
In an email, they also demanded that a live telecast of their meeting should be made available to the public for transparency. They also requested that a 30-member delegation should be invited to the meeting.
Earlier in the day, the chief secretary had invited the junior doctors for a meeting, the second time in the last 24 hours. However, the secretary urged the doctors to send a delegation of only 12-15 representatives.
Earlier, a major row erupted over a leader from the ruling party TMC criticising the agitating doctors for “defying directives from the Supreme Court.”
The SC had earlier urged the doctors to rejoin their duty by 5:00 pm (local time)on Tuesday.

TMC leader Chandan Mukhopadhyay, a panchayat leader of Baduria in North 24 Parganas, called the doctors ‘anti-national’.

“Despite the Supreme Court order, the agitating doctors are continuing with their protest. They have forgotten their solemn duty of serving the people. These agitating doctors are nothing but anti-nationals. Immediate action must be taken against such doctors who have defied court orders,” the TMC leader was heard saying in the video.
Junior doctors on Tuesday continued their protestfor the 33rd consecutive day, demanding justice for the medic who was brutally raped and murdered in the premises of the state-run hospital in Kolkata last month.
