
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System-1I or IRNSS-1I from the spaceport of Sriharikota Island, Andhra Pradesh.
Launched at 04:04 early morning, the PSLV-C41 rocket is expected to replace IRNSS-1A. This satellite is part of the constellation of seven NavIC navigation satellite.
ISRO Chairman K Sivan described the mission a success as he congratulated his fellow scientists.
He said that IRNSS-II has successfully placed in the designated orbit.
This is the second attempt by ISRO to send a replacement satellite as the first attempt in August 2017 the launch of IRNSS-1H had failed.
The previous mission last year failed after heat shield covering the satellite failed to separate from the rocket as onboard atomic clocks stopped functioning.
The purpose of these IRNSS satellites is to create India's own navigation system which would be in the lines of US' GPS or Global Positioning System.
Two weeks back ISRO launched GSAT-6A on board GSLV Mk-II. However, the ISRO lost communication with the satellite within two days.
