Internet use by adults is among the lowest in India, according to a recent Pew Research Centre study.
The Pew study said that only one in four adults in India use the internet. In South Korea on the other hand, 96% of adults said they used the internet.
The Pew study was carried out in 39 countries, with a median of 75% of adults across the 39 countries saying they either used the internet occasionally or owned a smartphone (the Pew definition of using the internet).
The Pew study said that in many advanced economies, nine out of 10 or more adults used the internet. South Korea led the list at 96%.
Greece was the only advanced economy surveyed where fewer than seven in 10 (66%) reported using the internet.
Conversely, internet use was below seven in 10 in 13 of the 22 emerging and developing economies surveyed. Among those countries, it was lowest in India and Tanzania, at a quarter of the adult population.
