After completing the land exercises, the sea phase of 'INDRA 2018' India and Russia naval bilateral exercise began in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
Indian and Russian navalships which had docked at Vizag sailed out for the naval drill.
The Russian navy ships - Varyag, Admiral Panteleyev and Boris Butoma along with Indian naval ships - Ranvir, Satpura, Kadmatt, Kuthar, Khanjar and Jyoti sailed into the Bay of Bengal.
The military drill which began on November 27th in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi consisted of Indian army's mechanized infantry battalion with 500 soldiers, 250 from each from Russia and India taking part in the annual exercise.
The drill is being held under the banner of the United Nations. The land drills were aimed at strengthening special tactical operations.
Last year in October, Indian troops had taken part in the military exercise with Russian troops in the eastern military district of Russia at Sergeevisky and in the Sea of Japan near Vladivostok.
In the Russian leg, all three services of the Indian defence forces - Air Force, Navy and Army - had taken part with at least 1,000 troops combined between the two countries.
The exercise aimed at strengthening mutual confidence, inter-operability and to enable sharing of best practices between both the armed forces.
