In India's Madhya Pradesh, the city of Indore has set an amazing green record by planting over 1.2 million (12 lakhs) saplings within 24 hours on Saturday (Jul 13).

The record has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records under the title "Most trees planted by a team within 24 hours" announced a consultant working with Guinness World Records.

India's cleanest country

Indore has been declared the nation's cleanest city six times in a row. The record-breaking sapling plantation drive further reinforces the city's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Nishchal Barot, Guinness World Record Consultant said that the city has set a world record.

"More than 12 lakh trees were planted in Indore within 24 hours. The title of this Guinness world record was 'Most trees planted by a team within 24 hours'."

He said that the team started their record-making attempt on July 13 at 7:03 pm, and it continued till 7:03 pm on July 14. 

Where were the saplings planted?

The tree saplings have been planted in the Revati Range plantation, which was divided into 9 zones and 100 sub-zones. 

Amazingly, Indore broke the previous record in merely 22 hours. The whole plantation drive was monitored through 100 cameras.

"The good thing is that Indore broke the old record at 5 pm. Assam held the old record for planting 9,26,000 trees in 24 hours. The record was broken at 5 pm and a new record was made," said Barot.

"Then the counting started and then we got to know that more than 12 lakh trees had been planted. The numbers will be released later," he said, adding that the final record certificate will come from London.

"However, we have handed the certificate of the new world record to CM Mohan Yadav. Right now, a provisional certificate is being given. After the final numbers, the certificate will come from London, in which numbers will be mentioned that by this number, the record is being broken," said the Guinness World Record Consultant.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister on X congratulated the team and said, "Inspired by our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and with the honourable presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah ji, Madhya Pradesh has proudly achieved this remarkable feat, conveying a powerful message of nature conservation and dedicated service to Mother Earth."

Surreal world record

Praising Indore, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, on X, wrote, "Congratulations, Indore! The city of Indore has set a surreal world record by planting 12 lakh saplings in a day under PM Shri @narendramodiJi's campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'."

"They have set an example that will be followed by millions in the years to come. Mother Earth is smiling at Indore."
