USA and France continue to strongly support India’s membership

India continues to engage with China on a number of fronts including New Delhi's bid for Nuclear suppliers group(NSG) membership.

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, MoS MEA VK Singh said,"Government is engaged with all NSG members including China at the appropriate levels for a decision on India’s application for membership of the group." The most recent talks were held in Beijing on April 10, 2018.

The development comes at a time when Indiaand Chinahave been talking to each other to iron out differences.

PM Modi is likely to meet Chinese President XI Jinping in Johannesburg on the sidelines of BRICS summit.

This will be the thirdmeet between both the two leaders in just matter of threemonths. Both met first in April during the "informal summit"in Wuhan, then in June for the SCO summit.

India has been the member of threeout of four export control regimes. The three regimes are Wassenaar arrangement, Australia group and Missile Technology Control Regime(MTCR).

USA and France continue to strongly support India’s membership but Bejing has been a tough nut to crack. Bejing has been demanding Pakistanentry into the elite club.

Earlier in June meeting of NSG in Latvia, the grouping in a release had said that it "discussed the NSG relationship with India".
