The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing the alleged irregularities during the UGC-NET examination was allegedly attacked by locals in Bihar’s Nawada.

Soon after, the central investigation agency lodged a police complaint and four people have been arrested since then.

The incident, according to the officials, occurred on Saturday evening (June 22) when a team of CBI visited Kasiadeeh village in the area.

They said that a mob encircled the CBI vehicles and heckled the officers, following which they called the local police station which sent their force.

The police arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the attack and they have been sent to judicial custody, the officials added.

NTA cancels UGC-NET after 'exam integrity compromised'

India's National Testing Agency on Wednesday (June 19) announced the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam just a day after it was conducted.

The Education Ministry released a statement saying that the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination, and the inputs prima-facie indicated that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised.

The statement further said that the matter was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough probe.

"To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled," the statement said. 

It further said that the exam will be conducted afresh at a date that will be announced later.

'Website, all portals fully secure': NTA 

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) claimed its website and all other web portals were fully secure.

It also rejected the allegations of the portals being compromised, terming them as "wrong and misleading."

"NTA website and all its web portals are fully secure. Any information that has been compromised and hacked is wrong and misleading," the NTA said in a post on X.

NTA found itself in hot waters after students alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination. This triggered several protests in the country where students demanded to disband the NTA.

The unexpected results of the exam showed 67 candidates achieving a perfect 720 which raised concerns among students.
