In the wake of increasing interest in the indigenousmulti-barrel rocket launchers(MBRL) globally, India began exporting the Pinaka rockets to Armenia.
These DRDO-developed rocket launchers were being supplied at the same time when India started the Akash air defence missile system's deliveries to Armenia.
According to the news agency ANI, the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems' first lot has been exported to Armenia.
This highly capable weapon system comes in variants and can strike targets that are more than 80 km away.

The contract between Armenian and Indian firms for supplying Pinaka weapons was signed around two years ago after the negotiations were extended.
Armenia is among India's three largest buyers of weapons and equipment, along with France and the United States.
A number of countries from Europe and Southeast Asia have been interested in the Pinaka rockets, and its various variants have been developed in recent years. The Indian Army is planning to induct rockets in a big way.
Recently, the important tests of the Pinaka rockets were carried out by the DRDO. These rockets have been produced by Solar Industry's Economic Explosives Limited, which is based in the Indian city of Nagpur, and the government-owned Munitions India Limited.

The government of France has expressed its interest in this weapon system's acquisition. The weapon system has been named after the divine bow of the Hindu god Shiva.
France had expressed its interest during Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan's high-level visit earlier in 2024.
India has been aiming at increasing the export of the indigenous systems, and the government has achieved success in this thrice since 2014.
France is India's second-largest importer of defence equipment after the United States.
