Sawant in his tweets made it clear that he was quitting the government due to the end of the alliance between BJP-Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

Sawant said that certain promises had been made as terms of the alliance and those had not only not been fulfilled but also denied as having made. He, therefore, decided to exit the government.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Sunday invited the Shiv Sena to stake a claim in the government formation of Maharashtra.

Koshyari asked Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde to indicate the willingness and ability of his party to form the government in Maharashtra.

This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party, earlier in the day, decided not to be part of government formation in Maharashtra.
