
The Haryana health department has registered an FIRagainst Gurugram Fortis hospital in dengue death case.
The FIR has been registered under Section 304(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Under this section, the court believes that the accusedhad prior knowledge that his/her actions may lead tothe death of the person.
In a similar incident of negligenceby a private hospital, the Delhi health minister had cancelled the license ofMax hospital in Shalimar Bagh. The hospital had handed over the body of anewborn baby in a plastic bag claiming it to be dead. Later, the baby was found to be alive. However, the baby died after few days.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij said that the death was caused due to utter negligence.
A girl died due to dengue on 14 September, while her treatment was underway at Fortis hospital.
The deceased's parents said that theywere not allowed to take the body of their daughter until they paid the outstanding bill of Rs 16 lakh, reports said.
The parents of the girl claimed that the hospital staff kept their daughter on ventilator for three days even after she had stopped responding to the treatment.
The hospital, on the other hand, said that there was nothing wrong on their part and that they followed all "standard medical protocols and clinical guidelines".
The hospital addedthat there was a progressive fall in her platelet count and hemoconcentration.With consistent deteriorating of her health, the girl was put on on ventilator support within 48 hours.
