Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam aims to build progressive 'Thamizh Nadu'

Leading actor Kamal Haasan today formally entered politics by launching a party named Makkal Needhi Maiam (People's Justice Party) at a public meeting in Madurai.
"I am not a leader, I am among the people. You are the crowd of leaders. Memorise the name. We have a responsibility from now one. This is not a one day thing. It is going to be a way of life," Haasan said.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also present at the meeting where the actor said he is "going to create a people's government" amid much fanfare.
He also launched the party's website as well as Twitter and Facebook pages which have already become active.

"A prosperous Thamizh Nadu is my vision" read the message on the party's new website. In perhaps an indication of where the party will stand on language politics, the website spelled the name of the state as 'Thamizh Nadu'. That is significant since it is a departure from the formal spelling of 'Tamil Nadu', and underlines the syllable considered unique to the Tamil language, which is usually rendered in English as 'zh'.
