Narendra Modi 3.0 is officially here. The Indian Prime Minister, along with 71 ministers took oath on Sunday (Jun 9) at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. With this, Modi became only the third prime minister in the history of the country to have secured a consecutive third term in office. As the new ministers and new government in New Delhi settle in, there is a list of global events where their participation will be significant.
S Jaishankar, Modi's foreign minister in the previous cabinet, has again been awarded with the heavyweight portfolio in Modi 3.0 cabinet.
The government's participation in the following global events will be overseen by him.
The first foreign policy agenda of Modi 3.0 is going to be the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, slated to be held on June 10-11 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
The next major assignment for the foreign ministry would be the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) Summit 2024 in Italy, scheduled for June 13-15. PM Modi has been invited to attend the meeting and he will highly likely participate.
Earlier in April, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had invited PM Modi to the summit.
The Ukraine peace summit would be another major foreign policy agenda of the Modi 3.0 administration as the world struggles to find a feasible solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis. It is not clear whether India will participate in the meeting slated to be held on June 15-16. This summit's main aim is to garner diplomatic support for Ukraine's 10-point peace plan, announced in November 2022.
The meeting will take place at the luxurious Bürgenstock hotel, overlooking Lake Lucerne, following a suggestion from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will likely visit India on June 17. Sullivan will meet India's NSA Ajit Doval and review the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (ICET).
India's participation will also be required at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit slated to be held in Kazakhstan later this year.
