The first meeting of Narendra Modi's third cabinet was held at the Indian Prime Minister's Lok Kalyan Marg home on Monday (June 9). The Cabinet resolved to helpbuild 300 million more rural and urban houses to satisfy the housing needs of the growing number of eligible families.

Since 2015–16, the Indian government has been carrying out the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which aims to help eligible rural and urban people build homes with the most basic facilities. Over the course of the previous 10 years, 4.21 crore residences under PMAY have been constructed for eligible impoverished households.

Through convergence with other central and state government projects, all PMAY-built homes are equipped with additional essential utilities such as functional household tap connections, LPG and electricity connections, and household toilets.
