Aaryan Shukla creates Guinness World Record for fastest mental math calculation

An eighth-grade student Aaryan Shukla achieved a remarkable feat by creating a Guinness World Record for the fastest time to mentally add 50 five-digit numbers.

Shukla, a student of Delhi Public School Nashik, created the record in 25.19 seconds on the Italian TV show, ‘Lo Show Dei Record’ in Milan, Italy on 29th February 2024.

WION: How does it feel to be representing your country at such a young age and achieving this feat?

Aaryan Shukla: "I feel very proud when I represent India at various stages. It is also a proud moment for me when our country wins."

WION: How does your ability to calculate this fast help you with day-to-day activities?

Aaryan Shukla: "It helps me to process data. Whenever I go grocery shopping, it helps me calculate the total amount and the bill."

WION: Do you practice mental Maths every day? What does a usual day look like for you?

"Generally I practice mental Maths for about two to three hours every day. However, before a competition, I practice for more hours."

Shukla is one of the founding board members of the Global Mental Calculators Association (GMCA).

GMCA is a geographically diverse elite group that comprises of mental calculators worldwide.

The association aims at expanding and strengthening mental calculation.

Apart from this, Shukla at the age of eight won 10 medals as he represented India at the ‘Memorial Turkey Open Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.
