
Veteran Indian actor Shashi Kapoor died aged 79 on Monday after a prolonged illness.
According to Prithvi Theater, an institution found by him, the actor had been keeping unwell for several months now.
He was admitted to Kokilaben hospital for a routine dialysis, where the superstar passed away.
Shashi Kapoor was born as Balbir Raj Kapoor on 18 March 1938 and was the 3rd and the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, the younger brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, the widower of Jennifer Kendal (sister of actress Felicity Kendal). He was a father to three: Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, and Sanjana Kapoor.
Shashi Kapoor washonoured with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011 for his contributions to Art-Cinema. In 2015, he was awarded theDadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third member of Kapoorfamily to receive the highest award in Indian Cinema, after his father and brother Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, respectively.
Shashi Kapoor received three national awards and four Filmfare awards amongst others for his acting.
