
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday announced former Rajya Sabha BJP MP and eminent journalist Chandan Mitra, former CPI(M) MP Moinul Hasan, Congress's Sabina Yasmin and Mizoram advocate-general Biswajit Deb have joined TMC.
Chandan Mitra had submitted his resignation from the BJP to party president Amit Shah on Wednesday.
A two-time Rajya Sabha Member, Mitra is the Editor and Managing Director of The Pioneer. He was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha from August 2003 to 2009.
In June 2010, BJP got him elected to the upper house from Madhya Pradesh. His term ended in 2016.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the rally said that the party will ensure that the BJP government does not return to the party in 2019.
Banerjee said that a federal front of regional parties will ensure that BJP is defeated. Referring to the 325 votes polled in favour of BJP-led government at the no-confidence motion on Friday, she said that the figure will come down to 100 or 150 in the next Lok Sabha polls.
