Gandhi and other leaders had alleged the price of the Rafale jets were inflated in the new deal signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then French president Francois Hollande. Gandhi said the price of the jets was inflated by as much as three times what the previous UPA government had agreed on with Rafale.
Gandhi had also alleged that that Rafale's India partner — Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence — had been offered a sweetheart deal by the Modi government. The original offset partner had been HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd) but the PSU had suddenly been junked in favour of Reliance Defence.
Consequently, a number of petitions were filed in the Supreme Court asking the court to look into the deal.
The court however said last week that there appeared to be nothing wrong with the deal and that it did not need to be probed.
