BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi dies of cancer at 72; PM Modi ‘deeply saddened’

Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi breathed his last on Monday at AIIMS Delhi. He had beenbattling throat cancer for the last seven months. Born on January 5, 1952, he was 72 years old.

Earlier in April this year, the BJP leader said he won't be able to join party campaigns and rallies due to his poor health condition in the wake of Lok Sabha elections.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP leader wrote, “I have been battling cancer for the past six months. I felt that it was time to tell people about it. I will not be able to do anything during the Lok Sabha elections. I have told the Prime Minister everything."

In addition to his role as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Modi also served as Bihar's finance minister. With a political career spanning more than 30 years, he played a pivotal role in shaping Bihar's political environment and made significant contributions to the state's political arena.

Reacting to Sushil KumarModi's demise, PM Modi wrote on X,"I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Sushil Modi, my valuable colleague in the party and my friend for decades. He has played an invaluable role in the rise and success of BJP in Bihar. Strongly opposing the Emergency, he made a name for himself in student politics. My condolences are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!"

BJP National President JP Nadda posted on X, "The news of the demise of senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Modi is extremely sad. From the Vidhyarthi Parishad till now, we have worked together for the organization for a long time. Sushil Modi's entire life was dedicated to Bihar. His efforts have been very helpful in bringing Bihar out of jungle raj and putting it on the path of development. His absence is an irreparable loss for countless workers. May God give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members."

BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut wrote on X, "The demise of former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi ji has left a sudden void in the BJP family. He will be remembered for his fight against corruption and ensuring an era of good governance in Bihar. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Om shanti."
