Molakalmur MLA B Sriramulu on Friday said that he supported the demand for a separate North Karnataka after allegations of negligence in the region.
Sriramulu, who raised the concern in the state assembly as well, said he would lead the agitation in this regard.
"If injustice continues, then I will lead this agitation for a separate state for north Karnataka. We are not going to sit with our hands tied," he said, as quoted by ANI.
The BJP MLA from Molkalmoru also hinted that he would support the bandh called for by some organisations on August 2, demanding a separate state for the region.
Sriramulu also claimed that the Kumaraswamy government was ignoring North Karnataka and practicing the politics of partiality.
He called out Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy for his statement on selling the votes of Koppal farmers. He also accused the Congress of dividing the people in North Karnataka as Lingayats and Veerashaivas.
However, state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has dismissed the idea for a separate state. He had earlier said such demands won’t lead to any solution.
Shobha Karandlaje, BJP MP from Udupi-Chickmagalur constituency, also rejected the idea. Speaking with reporters in Mysuru, Karandlaje said the demand for statehood was not appropriate and she would not agree to it.
