How far can you go for your partner’s happiness? A man in India’s eastern state of Bihar helped his wife marry her childhood lover and wished them a “happy life ahead”.

This unusual story, which looks straight out of a Bollywood movie, took place in the Lakhisarai district of Bihar. The wedding of the man’s wife and her lover was held earlier this week.

Rajesh Kumar, 26, helped his wife, Khushboo Kumari, 22, and her childhood boyfriend Chandan Kumar, 24. Khushboo and Rajesh were married in 2021; however, the wife maintained contact with her childhood lover, Chandan even after the marriage.

The secret of Khushboo was uncovered when Chandan visited her house late in the night and got caught by Khushboo’s in-laws.

The next day, Rajesh presented Chandan in front of the village and with their consent, arranged to marry Khushboo to her former lover.

A small wedding ceremony was held at a local temple, and Rajesh bid them farewell, expressing his support, “Both had been deeply in love and were often found talking to each other. So, I finally married my wife to her boyfriend to bring happiness to their lives. I just helped them stay together…Khush rahen, badiya se kamaye-khayen (I wish them a happy married life)," said Rajesh.

Khushboo confirmed her husband’s awareness of the relationship and expressed her gratitude. “He agreed to our wedding after finding me with my boyfriend. Now, I will stay with my new husband,” she said.

The married couple also have a son. Despite the unusual situation here, Rajesh did not part with his two-year-old son, Ayush, whom he and his mother are devoted to.

“We can’t live without him. He is our only source of happiness,” said Rajesh’s mother, who was seen caring for the child.

Since the marriage, the unique story of Rajesh, Khushboo and Chandan has become the talk of the village.

“Everywhere we go, people are discussing this extraordinary wedding,” said local mukhiya Savita Devi. Sarpanch Vinay Singh said he was trying to get further details about the matter.
