After SC order, govt forms committee to suggest laws against lynching

The committee will be headed by the Union Home Secretary. The government has also set up a GoM headed by the home minister to look into the committee's recommendations

The government has constituted a four-member committee, headed by the Union Home Secretary, to suggest laws against lynching and mob violence. The announcement was made by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government has also set up a GoM (Group of Ministers) headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh to look into the recommendations of the committee.

The committee will submits its recommendations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Supreme Court had recently told the Centre to come up with a law to deal with the spate of lynchings that have broken out around the country.

As many as 30 people have been lynched around the country over rumours of child lifting. And some 20 people have been lynched over rumours of cow slaughter.
