
Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: In the northeastern state of Assam, the BJP wins11 out of 14 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections.
The elections in Assam were conducted in three phases from April 19 to May 7, to elect 14 members to the 18th Lok Sabha.
Assam accounts for the largest share of Lok Sabha seats—14 of 25 Lok Sabha seats—in the eight northeastern states.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and its allies in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance won 19 seats and the Congress won only four—three in Assam and one in Meghalaya.
The BJP also bagged a notable vote share of 36 per cent while the Congress bagged 35.4 per cent of the votes.
Some of the prominent faces contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Assam include former CM of Assam and BJP candidate from Dibrugarh Sarbananda Sonowal, Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi (son of former CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi) from Jorhat, Phani Bhushan Choudhury of AGP-BJP, Deep Bayan of Congress and Manoranjan Talukdar of CPI(M).
