Premier League: There is no speculation, says Jurgen Klopp on Darwin Nunez's potential Liverpool exit

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner makes controversial comment, wants Premier League matches to be staged in US

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ended speculations surrounding the exit of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez as the club nears the end of the current Premier League season. Nunez, who was signed from Benfica in 2022 has failed to put down a marker during his two-year spell at the club having often missed big chances in big matches. The most recent example was during defeats to Atalanta, Manchester United and notable other big games which has seen him on the receiving end of huge criticism.

Klopp on Darwin Nunez’s future

“There is no speculation on his future. That must be external speculation”.

“Darwin was not happy missing that chance and it happens. You help him if you can, but it’s part of a footballer’s career,” Klopp said on Nunez’s future at the club.

During the years at the club, Nunez has been a focal point of criticism and has scored 33 goals in all competitions. During the same period, Erling Haaland scored 88 goals for Manchester City when he came from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. The 24-year-old’s time at the club has also been rattled with injuries which has seen him sit on the sidelines.

According to former players and pundits, Nunez is the weak link in the final third for the Reds which has cost them points. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville stated that Nunez has yet to fill in the shoes of Sadio Mane who left the club in the same summer when he arrived from Benfica in 2022.

Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge will officially come to an end this weekend if either of them, Manchester City or Arsenal win their matches. The Reds are on 78 points from 36 matches and can only reach a maximum of 84 points. With Arsenal and Man City still in the race, Liverpool’s bid to give a happy farewell to Klopp has faded away.

The legendary manager will leave Liverpool at the end of the season on May 18 with the Wolves game at Anfield being his final assignment.
