Manchester United sign French teen Leny Yoro on a five-year contract
Ahead of the upcoming Premier League 2024/25 season, Manchester United have signed 18-year-old French defender Leny Yoro from Lille on a five-year contract. The Premier League (PL) club announced the development onThursday (July 18) as the Red Devils are determinedto shore up their defence. As per sources,the clubagreed to a 62 million euro ($67.56 million)fee for the young Yoro.
Yoro, who is acentre-back and played 60 games for Lille,made 41 appearances last term and was also named in the Ligue 1 team of the season after helping his side finish fourth and secure a Champions League qualifying spot. Thus, a lot is expected out of him for his new club in the upcoming season.
Post his signing, Unitedsporting director Dan Ashworth said in a statement, "Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses every attribute needed to develop into a top-class centre-back."
"Having had such an excellent start to his career, we are excited to support him in reaching his immense potential here at Manchester United," he added.

Further, Yoro also reacted to him joining the former PL champions. In a statement, the 18-year-old said, "Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour."
"Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family. I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new teammates," he added.
United will open the PL 2024/25 season, where they face Fulham at home. In 2023/24 season, United failed to finish in the top-four and managed an eighth-spot end.
