It has been over three decades since Tom Hanks brought Woody to life for the first time. But now the Oscar-winning actor believes that AI might replace him from the franchise. Hanks recently reprised his role as the beloved cowboy in Toy Story 5, which releases worldwide on June 19.

Tom Hanks on being replaced

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor spoke candidly about the future of the franchise and the growing influence of AI. Toy Story 5 is currently enjoying a record-breaking theatrical run across the globe, opening the door for a potential sixth film.

Opening up about another sequel, he said, "If you’re gonna do another ‘Toy Story,’ it better be worthwhile." But he believes that any future chapter would need a compelling reason to exist. "It better be great. You better be examining some theme that is not just dragging it out because people like the title. I mean, it is a huge corporate business without a doubt, I’m not gonna discount that. But unless it’s good, new, fresh, there’s no reason to do it at all."

Also Read: OG Forrest Gump Tom Hanks gives thumbs up to Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha

It has been over three decades since Tom Hanks brought Woody to life for the first time. But now the Oscar-winning actor believes that AI might replace him from the franchise. Hanks recently reprised his role as the beloved cowboy in Toy Story 5, which releases worldwide on June 19. Tom Hanks on being replaced During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor spoke candidly about the future of the franchise and the growing influence of AI.
Some films do more than entertain; they stay with us long after the credits roll. Whether it is the emotional depth, memorable performances, or powerful storytelling, certain films leave a lasting impression. Theri is one such film for me. Released in 2016, the Atlee directorial stars Vijay in what I consider one of the finest performances of his career. Years later, whenever Joseph Kuruvilla appears on screen and G.V. Prakash Kumar's background score kicks in, it still gives me goosebumps. While Vijay has delivered several iconic performances over the years, there is something about Theri that continues to resonate with me every time I revisit it.

Unforgettable moments and dialogues of Theri

What makes Theri memorable is its ability to balance action with emotion. The film is filled with moments that continue to resonate years after its release, thanks to its memorable characters and heartfelt storytelling.

One of the film's greatest strengths is the bond between Joseph Kuruvilla and his daughter, Nivi. Maa Inti Bangaaram is Samantha’s biggest solo hit Maa Inti Bangaaram grossed over Rs 43 crore worldwide in its first weekend. Director BV Nandini Reddy shared the news on social media, writing, “For making this story your own, for getting everything we tried to say and for celebrating it ….. this is truly the victory of the audience (folded hands emojis)….. so so grateful. This win hits very different.” The first weekend earnings of Maa Inti Bangaaram has battened the lifetime earning of Samantha’s previous solo grossers, Oh! Baby (2019) and Yashoda (2022). While Oh! Baby earned over Rs 38 crores, Yashoda earned Rs 32.13 crores in total. This makes the action drama the actor’s highest-grossing solo-led film in her career. Samantha’s highest-grossing films, led by a hero, are Mersal (2017) with Vijay and Rangasthalam (2018) with Ram Charan, both of which grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide. However, Maa Into Bangaaram’s collections are far from South India’s highest-grossing female-led film, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra (2025). Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, the Malayalam film grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide. Keerthy Suresh-led Mahanati (2018), which also starred Samantha, grossed approximately Rs 85 crore worldwide.
