Hundreds of actors and directors have signed a letter opposing the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros, warning it will choke production in an industry already battered by years of consolidation and cost-cutting.

Paramount Skydance said Wednesday it was hoping the EU would approve its $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, after it submitted a proposal to address related competition concerns. "We can confirm that today we have submitted a remedy to the European Commission," the US media conglomerate told AFP, without specifying what measures it had suggested. Paramount Skydance said it was "confident that this remedy directly and comprehensively addresses any concerns" raised by Brussels and supports "the path for timely clearance." The commission, the European Union's antitrust watchdog, has given itself until July 22 to decide on the acquisition, which has already been approved by the US Justice Department. It declined to comment on the content of the Paramount Skydance proposals, which according to US media includes an offer to pull out from a film distribution joint venture with Universal Pictures. Hollywood is uneasy about the takeover deal, which has been largely financed by one of President Donald Trump's closest billionaire allies. Hundreds of actors and directors have signed a letter opposing the merger, warning it will choke production in an industry already battered by years of consolidation and cost-cutting. The combined company would control a sprawling roster of assets, including CNN, Warner Bros. Pictures and the HBO Max streaming service. The deal is also awaiting approval in Britain, where the government announced Tuesday it may launch a more extensive review to ensure that media diversity is preserved.

The 2026 contest was watched by 131 million viewers, down 35 million on the year before after five countries stayed away over Israel's participation. Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia staged the biggest political boycott in Eurovision history, citing the war in Gaza.

Canada will take part in next year's Eurovision Song Contest, organisers announced Wednesday, expanding participation in the world's biggest live televised music event to the Americas for the first time. "The European Broadcasting Union and its newest member CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada's national public broadcaster, are excited to announce that Canada will participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria," the EBU said in a statement. Canada is the first new country to join Eurovision since Australia in 2015. "While born in Europe, the contest continues to welcome the world," Eurovision director Martin Green said in a statement. Bulgaria won Eurovision 2026 in Vienna in May with Dara's catchy floor-filler "Bangaranga" sweeping the 70th edition of the glitzy TV extravaganza, meaning they will get to host next year's edition. The 2026 contest was watched by 131 million viewers, down 35 million on the year before after five countries stayed away over Israel's participation. Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia staged the biggest political boycott in Eurovision history, citing the war in Gaza. Only 35 countries took part this year -- the fewest since entry was expanded in 2004. - Celine Dion star turn - The EBU is the world's biggest public-service media alliance, with more than 100 member organisations in more than 50 countries. CBC had been an associate member since 1950, and became a full member last week following a vote at the EBU's 96th general assembly in Prague, paving the way for its Eurovision debut. "Our participation... will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world," said CBC/Radio-Canada president Marie-Philippe Bouchard. CBC will unveil how Canada's entry will be chosen later this year. The EBU said Canada was among the top three countries participating in the "Rest of the World" televoting, while Canadians were among the largest ticket-buyers outside of Europe for the shows in May at the Wiener Stadthalle. Canadian viewers will now have "the added thrill of seeing their own country represented on the Eurovision stage", said Bouchard. Canada has form in Eurovision: appearing for Switzerland, Canadian then-starlet Celine Dion triumphed in 1988 singing "Ne partez pas sans moi", launching her career internationally. Other Canadians have graced the Eurovision stage: Annie Cotton represented Switzerland in 1993 with "Moi, Tout Simplement", finishing third -- the last French-language song to finish in the top three until 2021. Singers from Canada have also appeared for France, Greece, Malta and Austria. Seven countries took part in the first Eurovision Song Contest in Lugano in 1956. The idea began as a technical experiment: a live, simultaneous, transnational television broadcast. In total, 52 countries have taken part since then, including Yugoslavia, Morocco, Monaco and Turkey. Before Australia, Azerbaijan and San Marino were the last new countries in Eurovision, making their debuts in 2008.

<p>As eagle-eyed fans spotted this change, many first thought it might be a different dress. Others wondered if it was a new fashion trend. As the discussion grew, one fan commented, ''How come anushka is wearing short dress in one photo and one long dress in the other photo?''</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Another fan account posted two pictures. In one, Anushka is sitting next to Virat, wearing a short dress. In the next picture, she’s posing with Virat, Mr and Mrs Dhawan, and Ravi Shastri, and this time her dress appears longer.</p>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">How in the world did Anushka&#39;s dress get longer in the picture posted by Shikhar Dhawan&#39;s wife? 😭 <a href="https://t.co/e3a9oG2se0">pic.twitter.com/e3a9oG2se0</a></p>&mdash; Out Of Context Cricket (@GemsOfCricket) <a href="https://x.com/GemsOfCricket/status/2071990707498426468?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 30, 2026</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.x.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

<p>''How in the world did Anushka's dress get longer in the picture posted by Shikhar Dhawan's wife?,'' another fan wrote.</p><h3>Sophie Dhawan addresses the mystery</h3><p>As the photo became the talk of the internet, Sophie, who posted the picture, addressed the comments and said it was simply an edit.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Replying to a user comment, one user wrote,''the photo was taken from ICC page and made longer to fit the portrait size.''</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>While she confirmed that changes were made to the dress’s length, it’s still not clear why or what the necessity was. Was it edited to fit the portrait size? Was it done to match everyone else, who were wearing outfits that covered their legs? Or was it just for fun? The reason behind the change in the lenght of the dress is still a mystery.</p>

Sophie Dhawan's Instagram post featuring Anushka Sharma has the whole social media talking. The actress attended a cricket match in London wearing a mini-dress. But in one of the picture, the lenght of her dress became long. How?

Netizens notice everything, from the smallest details, whether it’s a ring, a wrinkle, or even the tiniest tattoo. And now, they’re talking about the length of Anushka Sharma’s dress, which has left many scratching their heads. How and where did this confusion begin? Read here. The chatter started after cricketer Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma had a sporty day out with Shikhar Dhawan and his wife, Sophie Dhawan, as they watched the India vs Australia ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. While their double date caught attention online, it was the changing length of Sharma’s dress that became the real talking point. For the sunny day out, Sharma wore a stylish blue mini-dress. The photos shared by Sophie on Instagram showed the actress in a mini dress that sat above her knees. However, what raised eyebrows was the changed hemline in one of the group photos. Sharing the photos, she wrote,''A bittersweet visit for my first time watching a game at Lords but what an atmosphere. 27,163 fans, a record-breaking crowd, and another reminder of just how far the women’s game has come. 💙🏏''

<p>Long before social media became popular, Studio Ghibli had crafted a universe where silence often spoke louder than words. The celebrated Japanese animation studio built a loyal fanbase with its evocative portrayal of rustling trees, steaming bowls of food, and rain-soaked train rides. Even today, those stories are liked by fans and they can be found on streaming platforms. Let's take a look at the entity built with imagination.</p><h2>History of Studio Ghibli</h2><p>The studio was a gift from legendary filmmakers Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, along with producer Toshio Suzuki. It was founded in 1985 in Tokyo with the aim of reshaping animation. But have you ever thought why they chose the name "Ghibli"? It is said that the term is derived from an Italian word linked with a hot desert wind, which basically represents the idea of bringing a fresh current into the anime industry.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/ahead-of-japan-pm-sanae-takaichi-s-india-visit-here-s-how-the-japanese-writing-system-works-1782735786944"><strong>Ahead of Japan PM Sanae Takaichi's India visit, here's how the Japanese writing system works</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In its four-decade journey, the studio has produced more than twenty feature films, and each combines painstaking hand-drawn animation with heartfelt storytelling.</p><p>Fans know that their stories do not rely merely on heroes and villains, but on complex relationships, moral ambiguity and emotions. Some of the iconic films that one must revisit are My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The best part about these films is that they appeal to both children and adults.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/why-japan-pm-sanae-takaichi-s-india-visit-is-strategically-significant-wion-decodes-1782544175393"><strong>Why Japan PM Sanae Takaichi's India visit is strategically significant</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Why does Studio Ghibli remain special in India?</h2><p>The popularity of Ghibli in India is said to have grown organically. Earlier, anime enthusiasts used to circulate the films through DVDs, introducing them to the emotional stories.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>But after the arrival of streaming platforms, it shifted mainstream pop culture, and Miyazaki's work gained a lot of new followers.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>It is due to the focus on family, respect for nature, childhood innocence, and folklore that Ghibli became popular across cultures despite originating in Japan.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/japan-pm-sanae-takaichi-to-make-first-official-visit-to-india-in-july-1782199563773"><strong>Japan PM Sanae Takaichi to make first official visit to India in July</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Long before social media became popular, Studio Ghibli had crafted a universe where silence often spoke louder than words. The celebrated Japanese animation studio built a loyal fanbase with its evocative portrayal of rustling trees, steaming bowls of food, and rain-soaked train rides. Even today, those stories are liked by fans and they can be found on streaming platforms. Let's take a look at the entity built with imagination. History of Studio Ghibli The studio was a gift from legendary filmmakers Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, along with producer Toshio Suzuki. It was founded in 1985 in Tokyo with the aim of reshaping animation. But have you ever thought why they chose the name "Ghibli"? It is said that the term is derived from an Italian word linked with a hot desert wind, which basically represents the idea of bringing a fresh current into the anime industry. Great Grandparents… at your own risk.” Equal parts unfiltered and candid, the warning captures the film’s pulse.

<p>Packed with power, mystery, attitude, and adrenaline, the video revolves around Yash, giving a sneak peek at the female forces shaping the story. Apart from Yash, the teaser features Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi.</p>

Carl Rinsch was convicted last year of misspending $11 million paid to him by the streaming platform in 2020 to create a science fiction series called White Horse.

American director Carl Rinsch, known for the 2013 film "47 Ronin," was sentenced Monday to 30 months in prison for defrauding Netflix of millions of dollars, prosecutors in New York announced. Rinsch was convicted last year of misspending $11 million paid to him by the streaming platform in 2020 to create a science fiction series called "White Horse." "Instead of using the money to make the show, Rinsch made risky bets on highly speculative stock options and cryptocurrency, and spent millions of dollars on luxury goods for himself," US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton said in a statement. Among the purchases Rinsch allegedly made were luxury clothing and furniture, a red Ferrari and five Rolls-Royces. In addition to the prison sentence, Rinsch, 48, was ordered to forfeit $11 million. His lawyers had pleaded for leniency from the judge overseeing the case, arguing that the misuse of funds happened "under the enormity of pressure" in his career and during an "incredibly contentious divorce." Although Netflix was never named by prosecutors, Rinsch was previously reported to be in a dispute with the company over a planned series initially titled "White Horse" and later renamed "Conquest." The show, according to court documents, was meant to focus on a scientist who creates a group of powerful clones "banished to a walled area in a Brazilian city, where they began developing advanced technology and came into conflict with humans and each other." Rinsch began his feature film directorial career with "47 Ronin," starring Keanu Reeves. Ahead of Rinsch's sentencing, Reeves wrote to the judge to ask for "leniency and mercy" for his former director, calling him an "exceptional artist" who was prone to "self-sabotage."

Gaurav Khanna addresses the matter During the interaction, when a photographer asked him how he was doing, Gaurav said, "Bas yaar, wahi yaar jo pehle tha wahi haal hai abhi bhi. Pyaar abhi bhi utna hai, support abhi bhi utna hai… Main toh humesha support karunga Akanksha ko, meri biwi hai yaar. Pyaar kiya toh piche kyu hatu? (I am doing the same as I always was, nothing has changed. The love is still the same, and the support is still the same. I will always support Akanksha—she’s my wife, after all.
