Modern technology and social media provide immense convenience and productivity, but constant connectivity can keep the brain on high alert, causing mental fatigue, impaired focus, and burnout. Experts Dr Deeksha Dwivedi and Dr Swati Mittal emphasize that technology itself is not the problem; rather, the key lies in how we use it. The Double-Edged Sword of Constant Connectivity Technology and social media guide nearly every aspect of daily life, from communication and learning to work and shopping. While smart devices enhance convenience and streamline daily routines, they make disconnecting exceedingly difficult, transforming everyday moments into ongoing stress driven by endless notifications and expectations of constant availability. Shifting the Perspective: Technology as a Tool for Balance Independent researcher and IT professional Dr Deeksha Dwivedi highlights that technology is inherently neutral. When applied mindfully—such as using digital calendars or automated processes—technology actively reduces stress and boosts efficiency rather than causing fatigue. The Psychological Toll: Indivisible Addiction and Burnout According to Senior Psychiatrist Dr Swati Mittal, remaining constantly connected places the brain in a prolonged state of alertness. This continuous stress—often referred to as an "indivisible addiction"—gradually degrades attention span, emotional stability, and overall psychological health. Practical Steps for Individual Digital Wellness Dr Dwivedi emphasises that managing digital stress relies on disciplined time management and clear boundaries between work and personal life Manage Notifications: Turn off non-essential alerts during work to preserve focus. Schedule Offline Time: Set aside dedicated, daily offline hours to rest and recharge. Practice Work-Life Separation: Avoid checking work-related emails and messages after working hours. The Role of Organisations in Supporting Mental Health Digital wellness requires a joint effort between employees and workplaces. Organisations can prevent employee burnout by respecting personal time, establishing policies that limit after-hours communication, and encouraging short, restorative breaks throughout the workday. Strengthening Resilience Beyond the Screen Mindful tech use must be paired with healthy physical and social habits. Maintaining consistent sleep schedules, engaging in regular physical exercise, and nurturing face-to-face relationships with family, friends, and colleagues build the emotional resilience that technology alone cannot provide.

<p>Parenthood no longer follows the "biological clock" as it once did. For many couples today, having a child in their late 30s or even early 40s has become a conscious decision. Career ambitions, financial planning and the desire to be emotionally prepared are encouraging more people to delay starting a family.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Modern medicine has also given couples more confidence that pregnancy is possible later in life. However, doctors say age still plays an important role in fertility and pregnancy. Understanding what changes with time can help couples make informed decisions about parenthood. So, WION reached out to experts to decode the facts around late pregnancy.&nbsp;</p><h2>Why more people are delaying parenthood</h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to Dr Radhika Gera, Clinical Psychologist at Rainbow Children's Hospital, Sarjapur Road, delayed parenthood is largely due to changing life priorities.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/why-every-daughter-should-know-about-her-mother-s-menopause-journey-1785844411017"><strong>Why every daughter should know about her mother's menopause journey</strong></a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"More people these days are leaning toward becoming parents later in life, not just because of one thing, but because social rhythms and educational as well as work priorities shift. A lot of people spend their twenties and early thirties pushing their careers along, trying to land solid financial footing, or going for more schooling before they even think about a family."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She further adds that many couples also wait until they feel emotionally ready or have found the right partner. Improvements in fertility treatments and assisted reproductive technologies have further reassured people that pregnancy may still be possible at an older age. However, she stresses that fertility naturally declines over time.</p><h2>When is a pregnancy considered advanced maternal age?</h2><p>Dr Ruchi Shrivastava, Director, Obstetrics &amp; Gynaecology at ShardaCare-Healthcity, explains, "A pregnancy is medically considered advanced maternal age (AMA) when the woman is 35 years or older at the expected time of delivery. This classification is based on evidence showing that fertility naturally declines after the mid-30s, while the likelihood of pregnancy-related complications gradually increases."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She notes that women over 35 may face a higher risk of gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, miscarriage, chromosomal abnormalities and caesarean delivery. However, she emphasises that advanced maternal age does not mean a healthy pregnancy is impossible.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"With preconception counselling, regular antenatal care, timely screening, and a healthy lifestyle, many women have safe pregnancies and healthy babies," she says.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/lifestyle/could-your-period-pain-be-endometriosis-experts-explain-the-warning-signs-1784726154451"><strong>Could your period pain be endometriosis? Experts explain the warning signs</strong></a></p><h2>How fertility changes with age</h2><p>One of the biggest concerns with delayed pregnancy is the natural decline in fertility. As per Dr Parnamita Bhattacharya, gynaecologist at CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI, women are born with a fixed number of eggs, which gradually reduce throughout their reproductive years.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"Nowadays, intentional delay of parenthood is very common because of financial reasons, professional reasons. But if the couple is delaying pregnancy, the first thing one should consider is ovarian aging because women are born with fixed number of eggs and from puberty these eggs are used up throughout their reproductive life. We have seen after 35, there is a sharp decline in the ovarian egg numbers as well as egg quality."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Similarly, Dr Shrivastava says, "A woman's fertility gradually declines from her early 30s and more noticeably after age 35 due to a reduction in both the number and quality of eggs. This can make conception take longer and increase the chances of miscarriage."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She adds that pregnancies at an older age may carry a higher risk of gestational diabetes, hypertension, preeclampsia, placenta-related complications and caesarean birth. Babies may also have an increased risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, chromosomal conditions such as Down syndrome and stillbirth. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/life-fun/world-brain-day-how-chronic-stress-is-damaging-your-brain-1784704695568"><strong>World Brain Day: How chronic stress is damaging your brain</strong></a></p><h2>Common myths about pregnancy after 35</h2><p>Many people assume pregnancy after 35 is either impossible or automatically high-risk, but according to Dr Shrivastava, it's not true.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"One of the biggest misconceptions is that pregnancy after 35 is either impossible or always high-risk. While fertility does decline with age, many women naturally conceive in their late 30s and early 40s, and others achieve pregnancy with fertility treatments."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She also points out that “being physically fit alone can completely offset the effects of age on egg quality. In reality, ovarian reserve and egg quality naturally decrease over time. Conversely, people may also overestimate the success of IVF, assuming it guarantees pregnancy regardless of age. Early fertility assessment and individualized medical advice remain essential.”&nbsp;</p><h2>Can egg freezing help?</h2><p>Dr Bhattacharya says, "The most important proactive step that a person can take in their late 20s or early 30s is considering the egg freezing if they're planning to delay their pregnancies."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She explains that the procedure offers better results when done before the age of 35. &nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"The egg freezing is particularly, I mean, it gives good result if it is done below the age of 35 rather than doing it later after the age of 35."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She adds that egg freezing is especially important for women "who are suffering from endometriosis or who have other issues like fibroids, they might need surgery. So in these patients also, the egg freezing is very important because endometriosis itself can affect the egg qualities and the ovarian reserve. And if any pelvic surgery is done, even for any reason for being endometriosis or fibroid, it can also affect the ovarian reserve."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Also Read: </strong><a href="https://www.wionews.com/life-fun/de-stress-by-changing-a-few-things-at-home-as-per-vastu-rules-1784640581428"><strong>De-stress by changing a few things at home as per Vastu rules</strong></a></p><h2>Preparing the body for pregnancy</h2><p>Not just age, overall health also plays a crucial role in pregnancy outcomes.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dr Bhattacharya explains that as people grow older, conditions such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes become more common and can affect both the mother and baby during pregnancy.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>“So, if they are planning to delay pregnancy, they have to ensure that they are in the best of their health, they are exercising, they are maintaining their body weight. Even if there are certain comorbidities like obesity and hypertension, those are controlled before they are planning pregnancy. So, this is very important.”&nbsp;</p><h2>The emotional side of delayed parenthood</h2><p>While delayed parenthood comes with medical considerations, it can also bring psychological benefits.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dr Gera says many older parents feel more emotionally prepared for raising a child.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>“For a lot of people, turning into a parent later in life can seem to offer a handful of psychological perks. Many older parents say they feel more emotionally mature, more patient, and quietly sure about their choice to raise a child.”&nbsp;</p><h2>Emotional challenges of fertility struggles</h2><p>Dr Gera says, "Trying to conceive later in life can be kind of emotionally demanding on a lot of couples, you know, even when they are doing everything 'right'. There's this worry about fertility levels slipping, repeated treatment cycles piling up, or the chance of complications in pregnancy, and that can quickly turn into real stress and anxiety."</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She added that many couples experience disappointment, guilt, frustration and pressure from constant questions or comparisons with peers who already have children. Repeated fertility treatments can also strain relationships.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"Infertility, and those repeated pregnancy losses can really mess with your emotional balance, like it's not just 'in your head', it often feels heavy in day-to-day life. So mental health support becomes a major part of the whole treatment, not an add-on," says Dr Gera.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She recommends seeking help from psychologists or counsellors specialising in reproductive health. Couples counselling, mindfulness practices and regular emotional check-ins alongside fertility treatment can also help couples cope better throughout their journey to parenthood.&nbsp;</p>

Nowadays, more couples are choosing pregnancy later in life due to career goals and changing social priorities. Experts say understanding fertility and planning ahead can make a lot of difference.

"One of the biggest misconceptions is that pregnancy after 35 is either impossible or always high-risk. While fertility does decline with age, many women naturally conceive in their late 30s and early 40s, and others achieve pregnancy with fertility treatments." She also points out that “being physically fit alone can completely offset the effects of age on egg quality. In reality, ovarian reserve and egg quality naturally decrease over time. Conversely, people may also overestimate the success of IVF, assuming it guarantees pregnancy regardless of age. Early fertility assessment and individualized medical advice remain essential.” Can egg freezing help? Dr Bhattacharya says, "The most important proactive step that a person can take in their late 20s or early 30s is considering the egg freezing if they're planning to delay their pregnancies." She explains that the procedure offers better results when done before the age of 35. "The egg freezing is particularly, I mean, it gives good result if it is done below the age of 35 rather than doing it later after the age of 35." She adds that egg freezing is especially important for women "who are suffering from endometriosis or who have other issues like fibroids, they might need surgery. So in these patients also, the egg freezing is very important because endometriosis itself can affect the egg qualities and the ovarian reserve. And if any pelvic surgery is done, even for any reason for being endometriosis or fibroid, it can also affect the ovarian reserve." Also Read: De-stress by changing a few things at home as per Vastu rules Preparing the body for pregnancy Not just age, overall health also plays a crucial role in pregnancy outcomes. Dr Bhattacharya explains that as people grow older, conditions such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes become more common and can affect both the mother and baby during pregnancy. “So, if they are planning to delay pregnancy, they have to ensure that they are in the best of their health, they are exercising, they are maintaining their body weight. Even if there are certain comorbidities like obesity and hypertension, those are controlled before they are planning pregnancy. So, this is very important.” The emotional side of delayed parenthood While delayed parenthood comes with medical considerations, it can also bring psychological benefits. Dr Gera says many older parents feel more emotionally prepared for raising a child. “For a lot of people, turning into a parent later in life can seem to offer a handful of psychological perks. Many older parents say they feel more emotionally mature, more patient, and quietly sure about their choice to raise a child.” Emotional challenges of fertility struggles Dr Gera says, "Trying to conceive later in life can be kind of emotionally demanding on a lot of couples, you know, even when they are doing everything 'right'. There's this worry about fertility levels slipping, repeated treatment cycles piling up, or the chance of complications in pregnancy, and that can quickly turn into real stress and anxiety." She added that many couples experience disappointment, guilt, frustration and pressure from constant questions or comparisons with peers who already have children. Repeated fertility treatments can also strain relationships. "Infertility, and those repeated pregnancy losses can really mess with your emotional balance, like it's not just 'in your head', it often feels heavy in day-to-day life. So mental health support becomes a major part of the whole treatment, not an add-on," says Dr Gera. She recommends seeking help from psychologists or counsellors specialising in reproductive health. Couples counselling, mindfulness practices and regular emotional check-ins alongside fertility treatment can also help couples cope better throughout their journey to parenthood.

<p>The trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana dropped last week online and instantly sparked discussion and debate online. While many praised the film’s scale and ambition of the two part epic, there were others who raised questions around the casting of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and the costumes of characters like Kaikeyi (played by Lara Dutta) and Sita (Sai Pallavi). Many argue that the women were presented in modern aesthetics with the styling resembling modern-day fashion more than the mythological world most had imagined. I wanted my Goddess, the one sitting in my mandir (temple), to look like the image that has lived in my consciousness.” Harpreet, meanwhile, addressed the controversy around Lara Dutta’s look and explained the symbolism behind her costume. “The green in her costume represents motherhood, while the deep maroon reflects the emotional strength and darkness of the decision she has to make. She is torn between her own son and Ram.” The designer added that every colour in the film was chosen after careful thought. Harpreet added the audience is often quick to judge before understanding the creative intent behind such choices. ‘No surviving costume references’ Rimple pointed out that the Ramayana was based in Treta Yuga and there are no surviving costume references from that era that could conclusively establish what people wore. The adaptation should be seen as an act of interpretation. She noted that the Ramayana itself has been imagined and re imagined differently across cultures and generations. Adding to this, Harpreet said, “This is our attempt to make an ancient epic speak visually to a new generation. There’s thought behind every thread,” urging audiences to watch the film in its entirety before forming an opinion. While he praised Sai Pallavi and Yash, he admitted he was unsure about Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Rama. “I did not really care much for some of the other actors. <p>@bhumisatishpednekkar I remember I was, briefly, one of your teachers at a Mumbai-based film school. Unfortunately for me, I also remember how disrespectful, almost disdainful, you were about your teachers. Care to explain your new approach towards the concepts of respect and responsibility and how your world-view changed so drastically in the interim?" she wrote in the post.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Soon after the post went viral, it drew mixed reactions. Some netizens called out Desai, questioning how she could bring up Bhumi’s behaviour from her younger days in response to her recent comment, arguing that people evolve with time.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>One user wrote,''People are capable of change, whether good or bad, usually driven by life events and experiences. Dismissing it or expecting it not to happen at all, is not going to affect the fact. Let's hope all of us change for the better and not for the bitter.''</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Another user wrote,''What a pointless virtue signalling post. People evolve. Context changes. Bhumi has also said something new just now, both her statements are sincere I would believe.''</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pednekar has not reacting to Desai's post yet.</p><h2>What Bhumi Pednekar has said on NEET paper leak protest?</h2><p>Pednekar shared a video speaking about the abusive language used during the recent CJP-led student protests. Speaking against the language used for political dignitaries, Pednekar said in the video:</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Speaking against the kind of language the youth used for the political dignitaries, Pednekar said in a video,'"Looking at the videos surfacing now, the kind of language being used, and the way the youth of our country are speaking — the youth of our country... this isn't how we talk, man. We are talking about someone who holds the highest office in the land today. And it’s not just about the office; would we ever speak like this to the elders in our own homes? Can we really resort to using abusive language?"</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She further said that this is not part of our culture.</p>

Days after the NEET protest wrapped up, Bhumi Pednekar spoke out against the vulgar slogans used by protestors seen in viral videos. But her comments have sparked another controversy, with her ex-teacher now calling out her behaviour.

Days after the NEET paper leak protest, led by CJP, ended, another debate erupted on social media over the vulgar slogans used by protestors against security personnel, journalists and political dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Condemning the use of abusive language, Bhumi Pednekar was among several celebrities who spoke out. Pednekar’s post drew strong reactions online, including from her former teacher, who slammed the actress. The teacher recalled Bhumi as someone who was “disrespectful” and “almost disdainful” towards her teachers. Bhumi Pednekar's ex-acting teacher slams actress, calls her "almost disdainful." What Bhumi likely wasn’t expecting has now happened. Her ex-acting teacher has come forward with a post that has nothing good to say about the actress. Questing her remarks on the NEET-UG 2026 protest, spiritual psychotherapist Shruti Desai, who has claimed that she had a brief interaction with Bhumi, when she briefly taught her at a Mumbai-based acting school. Speaking about her short stint with the actress, in a post shared on Instagram, Desai recalled how ''disrespectful, almost disdainful'' Bhumi's behaviour was for her and other teachers.
